Rules
1. Only admin, mods, group leaders, soldiers and expert posters can vote on an open debate.
2. All members can vote on closed debates.
3. Members participating in a debate are not allowed to vote on that topic
4. Votes must be based solely on the arguments made in the debate.
5. “Me vs. him, who’s better?” type of debates will not be allowed.
6. All threads must remain on topic.
7. All flames, personal insults etc will be deleted on sight.
Types of Debate
There are two types of debates, open debates and closed debates.
Open debates are set up by admin and mods twice a month and will be open for two weeks. Anyone can take part in an open debate or suggest a debate topic for these in the S&C forum. Voting will be open for two weeks after the debate ends (until the next one begins) and will be open only to admin, mods, group leaders, soldiers and expert posters.
Closed debates can be set up at any time by individual users and are open only to those the original poster allows (this can be the whole forum). There must be at least two active participants of opposing views otherwise the thread will be closed. Votes will be held within the thread itself and will be left open indefinitely. Anyone can vote in these debates. If you want to place your own poll in your thread see below…
Starting a Debate
When setting up a thread you must include the debate topic in the title along with the voting date.
In the body of the thread you must include the debate topic, two or more examples of views that participants can take, the date of the vote and the members/groups that can participate.
The debate topic must be detailed, clear and to the point, DO NOT post ambiguous topics like “what should the UN do about Iran”. The topic must have two or more possible, clearly opposing, viewpoints.
Please use common sense when choosing the debate topic, if the topic hasn’t been brought up in the main forum before and will only be of limited interest please consider posting it there first.
Taking Part in Debates
To avoid point-counter point arguments, when replying please try to make your first post as comprehensive and concise as possible. One line answers such as “my vote goes to …” will be deleted. Please also try to post evidence and sources for your view, saying something ten times over doesn’t make it so!
Setting Up a Poll
To set up a poll: -
1 – Go to your Network54 account settings
2 – Click on “Votelets” under the “Resources” tab.
3 – Create a new Votelet.
4 – Enter the title, questions and possible answers and click “create”
5 – Enter any changes to the appearance you want and click “continue”
6 – Copy the URL and paste it into your thread.
Please do not start a poll until the date you put in your thread’s heading. Any poll posted before that time will be deleted.
