Hi all, new poster here, but have enjoyed the discussions for the past month or two. Last summer my wife and I traveled cross country between duty stations (from San Diego to Bethesda, Maryland), and I just had to stop off in Fouke, Arkansas to see the famous town that kindled my interest in Bigfoot (that movie scared me to death when I saw it in the theater…I was about 10, I think). Fouke is still a tiny place, but it had a convenience store called the “Monster Mart” with a painting of the big guy on its sign and on the front wall. Looking for souvenirs, we went inside to discover a small bulletin board with assorted newspaper articles about the 30th anniversary celebration of the sightings. The owner of the store struck up a conversation with us and mentioned they get a few tourists in every day from all over. I asked when the last sighting was, not expecting anything beyond the 70’s, and he said last October (2000) they had about 30 reports. I was dumbfounded! He said reports have come in pretty regularly. Of course, we had to go just down the road to find Boggy Creek (no sign to snap a picture of…I think the store owner had mentioned people keep taking the sign so they no longer put one up) and we drove around to see how thick the woods were and how relatively unpopulated the area still seemed to be. Anyway, I’m sure others will have the whole scoop, but thought I would chime in with this little tidbit. Also, I just did some searching and here is a website with a little more info: http://www.whitington.com/fouke/
