I have been frantically trying to remember where I read a scary story involving a BF and a bear fighting. I can't remember where, so a url is out of the question, but I'll relay what I can remember from it.
A man was walking through the forest, as he rounded a bend in the trail, he came upon a BF that had just killed a bear. There was blood all over the place, the bear lay dead, and the BF had a huge gash across it's back that was bleeding. The BF turned and saw the man and he claimed that it had red glowing eyes, in the daylight. The man somehow believed in a curse of somesort and felt he was doomed because he made eye contact with the beast.
I'm not sure if I got that exactly right, but to the best of my recollection, that is what happened. I would imagine that in most cases, a BF would win. I know grizzleys are strong, and have sharp claws, but I just think about a creature as huge, strong, agile, and quick as a BF, and I can't imagine it losing many of those fights. Having the advantage of opposable thumbs helps too. He could rip your arm off and beat you to death with it. Beowolf-esque. :)
