The answer is simple: to further the career of one Chris Packham (it didn't). The original programme was made by the BBC and broadcast here in Britain in 1998 before being "packaged" and sold on. Both John Green and myself wrote letters (which were published) in resonse to a Sept 98 article in 'BBC Wildlife' magazine written by Packham as a precursor to the TV programme. ISC Secretary, Richard Greenwell also wrote a long letter to the editor of the magazine, which he made public, refuting many of their so-called "facts".
