besides humans that can be considered sentient. Especially if you define it as simply "being aware of one's own existence." Animals can (and do) mourn, become lonely and depressed, and experience almost all of the same emotions humans experience. However, I doubt any creature other than Homo sapiens sapiens ponders such questions as: where did I came from, what is the meaning of life, what is my purpose in life, is there life after death, etc.
