Maybe those of you who've spent time personally observing behaviors can chew on this one awhile, and even those who haven't (like me) can come up with some ideas...
OK. If everyone's agreed that these creatures are highly intelligent, quick to avoid human interaction and detection, and bright enough to sabotage research efforts and equipment, then why are there SO many reports of them walking down roadsides, crossing highways in the middle of the night right in front of cars, etc?
Surely they're bright enough to equate oncoming headlights with human presence. Many of the reports describe the creatures either taking no notice of the cars at all, or glancing for a second and continuing without a care....do they think that because it's dark, they can't be seen? If they're smart enough to avoid cameras and break wires, wouldn't they understand that the headlights are lighting them up and making them very visible? The only answer I can come up with is, Who Knows??? Nobody does of course, but I'll be interested to hear what ideas you can throw out there!
