I won't deny my reaction to the activities, which Adrian surmised so eloquently. Back then we never use to go into the outdoors actually looking for our hairy friends, but that all changed after a few unexplainable encounters, this being one of them. My version of the developments have a bit more detail. I, having been the only one awake, sat there tending the fire, and having just finished listening to some soft classic rock from the early 70's,(America or Neil Young), when suddenly the neighboring campers' dogs started going off. This got my attention and as I began scrutinizing our surrounding area more attentively I began to hear crisp snapping of branches, sounding loud enough to have been approximately 3-4 inches in diameter. First thing I thought was "Bear"! Then accompanying the snappage, were heavy and loud footsteps, but strangely enough they sounded bipedal. If they would've quickly gone away, I may not have overreacted, but this thing started quickly running around our camp area, repeatedly. And me, not having packed any heat, began to feel very vulnerable. After my numerous failed attempts to wake my comatose-like companions, I started to raise my voice as this thing was not deterred by my obvious awareness. Usually Adrian is easily awakened, even by the subtle and friendly gastric eminations of company, often followed by a 1-2 word compliment or recommendation, but after 4Xing all day long, we had closed the evening by indulging in some effective spiritual sedatives and those 2 were out-like-trout.
The eerie noises lasted about 4-5 mins and finally departed, just as quickly as they had appeared. Needless to say, I found myself bewildered by this experience and from that point on, I became much more alert and studious of my surroundings, while out in the wild. Anywho, just my summations of the occurances of that memorable outing. Lesson learned...,although one may think they control their sphincteral abilities, always look behind you and double check the fan;)...jesse
