Did you ever eat a pine tree?

by Jim Zenor

I took a couple of vacations up to the Pacific NW this spring and made an interesting discovery. Having grown up surrounded by pine trees, I have tried a few needles and most are really pretty nasty tasting and they leave a bad after-taste. On the recent vacations, I tried some young needles (I believe it was cedar or spruce). They were lighter in color and were not fully mature. Anyway, not only were they edible, they were quite good. They had a somewhat lemony taste. If a bigfoot wanted to eat cedar needles, there are plenty there. There is enough to feed an elephant. It may be that bigfoot are not as particular as me and are able to eat things that I consider "nasty" but I woudn't mind having a needle salad right now.
