Most all creatures that are "uncivilized" and I use that word loosely here as most humans these days appear to be anything but civilized, live
in a flight or fight situation pretty much non stop.
This involves all of there bodily functions and is completely different situtation than what most of us experience.
When the fight or flight threat disappears, for whatever reason, then man or beast has what I refer to in my book as "downtime" or time to "reason". Your reference to soldiers and camouflage is interesting in that in my opinion soldiers don't reason. They take orders from others.
In other words, there has to be a dissipation of threat
to allow reason or "thought" to presage any actions or
behavior or choices that we make. Art is simply an
interpretation of our environment and it takes a great
deal of "thought" to arrive at this interpretation.
Soldiers, wild animals etc don't have the "down time"
necessary for this "thought". Just my own opinion.
