The mention of fruit not working must have got some people's brains worked up or something. I think it was the soil. Many primates eat soil of a particular content in order to digest things otherwise harmful to their digestive system and even their cell structure, such as Bracken Fern, which break down with a geophagy practice. Look it up. Even bamboo contains cyanide. Some seeds contain tannins. Alkaloids are also a problem here in the PNW. New leaves contain less of these compounds but when they are not available and more mature vegetation must be eaten… most animals know what to eat to counteract the problem.
Why in the world would you think you are investigating a hoax? What a joke! Some investigation! That was the very first thing we did.
