IR film is very grainy so you would want to use the biggest negative size possible. I use 645cm (medium format). I think you would be very disappointed with the results from 35mm. You can get relatively cheap 2 1/4 TLR cameras. They are great and IR film does come in 120 and 220 sizes. I think Kodak, Ilford and Fuji all sell it.

I recommend that you go and experiment with this stuff at your local zoo. See what Gorillas look like. I have never done it.

Color IR is typically used for vegetation problems. I would stay away from it. It is a positive (slide format) film type.
