We have done this once already and have ressies again for next May renting another DVC owners points at BWV.
Its a great way to check out the DVC accommodations without paying the high cost of renting them through Disney CRO and you're not quite ready to buy.
We're renting a preferred view studio for $130/night. check out www.disneyfan.com - they have a site just for DVC and a message board for members, interested people and a board for renting/trading points.
One tip - don't ever pay more than $10 per point if you rent. The cost will not justify renting them beyond that - you're better off payind the same for a regular resort with full amenities (daily housekeeping, etc..)
The only thing we didn't like was that the walls were a little thin - you could hear the TV in the next room - but it never went late at night or was a real issue.
