From what I've gathered its not going to be an improvement. I've even heard you can only use your discount on packages - NOT room only. Not sure if that's the case or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.
The regular Disney card has been restriction somethings for a while. You aren't supposed to get the discount on the bean bags or any of the "collectible" items.
We just signed up today - I'll post more after I get the new info.
