Melissa & Shannon: WDW Schedule

by Vince

The two of you give the most input.
I'm in WDW in 6/01 for 6 nights. I want to see as much as I can in 5 days (with a day off in between). What's the schedule?

Lets see....

by Shannon

I would definately see all the major parks, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, M.G.M and The Animal Kingdom. If you are short on time and can't get to The Animal Kingdom do not stress out about it. The park really only has a couple of good rides and is not even half way finished yet (it's suppose to end up being 5x's larger the The Magic Kingdom). Others may disagree with me, so this really is just my opinion. Be sure to see all the firework shows and most definately DO NOT MISS FANTASMIC at M.G.M. . This show is great!!! Please if you should have any other questions just ask, I would be more than glad to help.

Same here for AK

by

Its nice, but it gets crowded easily b/c there are fewer big attractions here. Fast Pass does help greatly in this park though. You can fast pass the rides and walk the trails while you wait.

crowds

by Shannon

It must be the way the park is set up...it always feels sooo crowded, even at very slow times of the year. Maybe when it's all finished I will like it better..I feel like such a trader saying anything negative about a Disney park..so hopefully it will get more rides and I will end up loving it.

Don't feel bad

by

We have felt the same way. They are putting in the new mini coaster in Dinoland - that was officially announced yesterday - and all the carnival stuff is going to be permanent.

We're waiting to go back until they add more to it. It gets crowded and HOT in there! What is there is amazing and excellent, but the park does need more attractions.

I definitely think people who haven't been there need to go, but we won't be repeaters to that one for a while. We've been 3 times so far and figure we can wait a while!

dino-rama

by D.R.

I'm afraid that dino-rama means that they will put off adding in the beastly kingdom even longer, if it ever comes to be at this point.

I'm sort of glad that they are doing dino-rama, because at least it will be something for people to do besides walking back and forth from Kali River, Dinosaur, and the Safari. But, I am a little sad that they are using off-the-shelf rides (there will be a dumbo type ride in addition to the wild mouse coaster) and the midway games. The midway games just seemed so tacky (I don't think that saying the theme is purposely tacky really helps, because I don't think Walt would have wanted the midway games).

At least there will be something more to do, I guess. I fear that after islands of adventure beat disney to the punch with the castle/dragon coaster that beastly kingdom may never come to be. Maybe they will add an Australia or S. America some day.

As for the original post about what to see in 5 days. I have a couple of things to say. First, if you aren't going to get up early and do early entry, don't go to the early entry park that day. For example, don't go to magic kingdom on Saturdays. They get the most full that day.

Use fast pass. Fast pass takes some of the joy out of park hopping, because if you go to a park in the afternoon the fast passes may already be gone. If the lines are long, don't do any fast pass rides in stand by, do other stuff. On test track, the single rider line is quicker than fast pass or stand by.

Take advantage of e-nights to do the big magic kingdom attractions. That way you can do other stuff when you visit the magic kingdom.

In MGM, get a fast pass for Tower of terror or rockin roller coaster and ride the other. Then switch it and do it again :)

In Animal Kingdom, get the fast pass for the safari first, then walk the gorrilla trail while you wait. Get a fast pass for dinosaur, and look at tackyrama while you wait. Then get Kali fast pass and look at the tigers and bats. Catch it's tough to be a bug when you walk by. Then you are done, unless you want to see a show or conservation station. Everyone says to go to the AK in the morning, but I believe in going in the afternoon when all those people who went in the morning are leaving.

In epcot, do the singles line for test track. Do future world one morning after 11 when everyone goes to world showcase. Do world showcase another evening when you want to eat and drink (like after the animal kingdom or MGM).

Don't get into such a rush that you forget to take time and have fun and look at things and take it easy. Ride a boat. Breathless is the best ride in walt disney world.

That's my free advice, for what it is worth.

Animal Kingdom

People who are told not to go the AK don't know what they're missing. It may not have thrill rides as such but it has a great atmosphere and surroundings. Less frantic than the other parks - it's my favourite - but get there early

Just my experiences

by

Unless you are going to get up and use the early entry days - avoid those parks on their particular days until the afternoon when the morning crowd has cleared out some.

The only specifics we've found are to AVOID MK on Saturdays! All the day visitors come then and its MK EE day. We have found that Animal Kingdom becomes MUCH less crowded after 3 or so in the afternoon. Since it closes early most people go first thing in the morning. We go in the afternoon and take 2 days to do it instead. That is just us - I've seen people SWEAR to going early!

Use fast pass when you can - it definitely helps. Watch out on Test Track - we use the singles line and walk on. Fast Pass books up here (the only one in Epcot on fast pass). We usually do Epcot in 2 days also since its so big. We like to half our days between 2 parks. Morning at MK afternoon at Epcot or whatever other combination.

Make a list of what you definitely want to do and make plans for those first. Figure out which things are on fast pass - so if you fast pass Splash Mountain - you can go to Thunder Mountain while your fast pass comes up.

Anything during the week is better than weekends, but my only definite advice is to stay away from MK on Saturday!

Hope you have a great time! Let me know if you want more specifics! Like I said - its just what we have found to work in the past for our trips, but I'm happy to offer suggestions.

Honey does not need the Fastpass

by

I have never seen any need for fastpass at Honey because the lines are never that bad. Also the fast pass does not get you into the ride all that much fast because you still have to see the opening show of the True Color song and Pictures.

In my opinion, buzz lightyear doesn't need it either, because it is a continously loading ride. So the continuously moving line has to be stopped to accomodate fast pass. Haunted mansion doesn't need it either, for the same reason, but is getting it. Honestly, I think fast pass is just a marketing gimmick. It works OK for some things, not so well for others.

What's amazing is that so many people still haven't figured it out. I overheard lots of people with misconceptions about it last weekend.

Fast Pass

by Shannon

I think fast pass probably works great during the busy times of the year but I was there early last Dec and it was not needed. All it did was make the lines longer because they only had one side open and the other was for Fast Pass. If they left both sides open the wait would have been next to nothing for many of the rides especially ToT. I'm going in Dec again and I am going to see how things work out with the Fast Pass on the Haunted Mansion..I have to admit I do remember waiting 1hr and 45mins for this ride during the Christmas-New Years week but I also agree with you putting Fast Pass on this ride will only make the wait longer because they will have to accomodate everyone..Oh well that's just my opinion..either way Fast Pass or not I'll still wait for the rides and enjoy every minute of it!! 53 days to go!!!!

I finally got the ticket's today!

by

I came back from the travel agent with a huge smile on my face. I'm SOO excited!!!!:o)
When I got back to work I'm reading everytihng back and forth but I'm a little confused about something.
Check in at the hotel is at 3:00 and check out is at 11:00.
i'm looking at my air tickets and they say that I'm getting there at around 11:00. So does this mean that I'm gonna have to wait in the lobby till 3:00 with my luggage?
One more thing. Since I'm doing the cruise they provide transportation to and from the airport but where do I find the shuttle at?
This is my first time traveling alone so please excuse me if I sound really elementary.
Do I have to check in my luggage? Can't I just take it with me on the plane since it's just one?
My ticket says check is required but I thought that all airlines let you take one suit case with you as long as it's not too big or anything.

Anyones input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

CL

Checking bags

by

If you get to the resort before check in - just leave you luggage w/ Bell services and they will bring it to your room when ever its ready or you come back. We usually get there early - this way we don't miss anytime at the parks.

My husband never checks his luggage on a plane. I try not to if I can pack light enough! I do always check in at the front desk of the airline just to make sure I get proper seating and know if any gate changes should come up. Most airlines now will allow you 2 carry ons - so travel light and don't waste time at baggage claim unless you have to!

I'm not sure about transport from the airport for the cruises - I've see Disney cruise people at the airport, but I don't know. I would call Disney direcly to ask. If not - we recommend Tiffany Towncar - we took Mears this past weekend and had to wait and drop people off and the van was packed - its worth the extra $$ for Tiffany - that's just our opinion though. For 1 person Mears is much less pricy.

Trip info...

by

We did the cruise several years ago. They will provide transportation, if you bought the transportation package, to the ship from WDW. Check with the resort where you are staying to find out where and what time it will pick you up. If you did not buy the transportation then you are on your own to get there. It's about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from WDW to where the ship departs. If you’re not sure about any of this check with your travel agent.

As far as carry-ons on the airplane, as Melissa stated you can carry on only two bags that must meet the size requirements. One bag can go in the overhead while to other one must go under your seat on the plane.

Most flights to Orlando seem to be full, so if you take carry-on baggage make sure you get to your gate early, and be ready to board when they call your seat row. If you're one of the last on the plane and there is no room in the overheads they will make you check you luggage!!! I do a lot of traveling and I see this all the time.

Good luck and have fun both in WDW and on the cruise!!!!

Do you think Disney has reached a point of saturation?

by

My husband and I can't get over how many new resorts and number of rooms Disney is putting in. And with little if any expansion in the parks themselves. Where does Disney think all the people are going to go?

Will the approx 8000 new rooms take people away from the off property hotels or will it make room for 8000 new groups of vacationers that wouldn't have come otherwise? Has Disney reached a point of saturation?

My husband thinks Disney will canabalize themselves in that 8000 more groups of people won't come and they won't be able to fill the new resorts. Hopefully this will stop the constant increase in prices and offer discounts to fill the current resorsts.

I think more people will come that wouldn't have before due to the good economy and available rooms and the parks will be more crowded than ever!

Okay - this is a little boring, but I was just curious what everyone's take on all the resort expansion was?

I have heard you say Melissa (well I have read ha ha) your post on the new resort by Animal Kingdom. But will that resort have all 8000 rooms? I agree that Disney parks are crowded now so hopefully this doesn't more create more crowding. Hopefully Disney know what they are doing and just trying to pull in more people who stay off site.

The Pop Century Resort

by

This is the new value resort thats going in behind CBR. As or right now they have plans for 6 Decades(bldgs) and they are building them now. I believe AKL has about 700-800 rooms - I'm not sure of the exact number there.

The plan for Pop Century is to build a building for every decade of the 20th Century. The have also started some initial contruction on the new Beach Club Villas I believe. We saw a lot of clearing and taping off there last weekend.

Animal Kingdom is a fairly new park,

by

so it follows that more rooms would be added. The new park brings in new guests, and makes others stay longer. Also, I understand Animal Kingdom is still expanding, with more attractions being added within the next year or two.

I'm sure Disney has done exhaustive studies to determine the impact of more rooms, and they run very little chance of hurting themselves.

As for crowded parks, I'm sure a portion of the new rooms will come from off-property hotels, but some will be guests who wouldn't have already been there. But with the Animal Kingdom now open and growing, I doubt we'll see a noticeable difference in congestion.

V & A's answers

by

V & A's is located in the Grand Floridian. It is on the second floor. I work as a seater there. It is the most formal dining experience at WDW, maybe in the state of Florida. V & A's is the only restaurant at WDW with a dress code. Evening attire is required. You are served by a maid and butler named Victoria and Albert. The wine list is award winning. There is also a wine pairing that the chef and the maitred have created to bring out the best favors of the food and the wine. When you want to make a reservation, call 407-824-1089. This will skip the WDW-DINE process and go directly to the our restaurant. We can find a new tables for you or put you on a wait list. Hopefully someone else on the board can share their experiences with you. See you soon.

The prices is expensive

by

The price is $85 per person for food only. If you get the wine pairings it is an extra $35-45 depending on if you get domestic or international wines. V & A's average check per person is around $115. There are some wedding packages that includes a dinner at V & A's. Grand Plan also covers dinner at V & A's. GP does not cover alcohol or extras like a additional caviar dish or the Chef's Table. Hope this helps you and it would be nice to see you for your honeymoon. Congratulations!!!

Try these

Artist Point or California Grill are a less than V&A, but still a bit on the pricy side. Both are excellent though - California Grill is great you can see the fireworks from the dining room.

Another spot we've found to be very nice is Spoodles, and for Illuminations - try Rose & Crown if you can get a patio seat or Matso No Ma Lounge in Japan they have great drinks and appetizers with a balcony to watch Illuminations outside.

www.wdwig.com has a list of menus & prices for almost every restaurant on property. We were amazed at how good O'hanas was and what an excellent value - more family oriented than romantic, but nice.

Birthday suggestion

by Goofy Guy

Coral Reef is a more adult dining experience. The kids may enjoy the fish swimming around them, but the food is not very kid friendly. I would recommend the restaurant at the Land where Mickey Mouse is at. The children might enjoy it more. Tell anyone when you are making the reservations that your children are celebrating their birthdays or tell them at the door. The restaurant will do anything to make your son's birthday incredible. Your children will have a wonderful time. Tell them Happy Birthday for me!

How is the Adventures of Winnie the Pooh?

It's very cute but I would not wait more then 30mins for it but the again I am not the biggest Pooh fan. Kids will absolutely love this ride! I would rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 a 7.

by

My son enjoys the Pooh ride more than I do. I was a Mr. Toad freak though. If you can, use the fastpass for the ride. The wait can be rough. I would also give it a 7 out of 10.

Loved Mr. Toad!

by

I've always loved Mr. Toad and was disappointed to hear that it was replaced by Winnie the Pooh. We took my Mom to MK back in '97 for her birthday - her first trip to WDW - and we rode Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. She giggled and laughed like a kid (and she doesn't really enjoy amusement parks). I sure hope the replacement ride is as good... We will definitely try it out when we are down there. Donna șoș

I agree, its cute.

by

My two year old son came out singing the Winnie the Pooh song (his own version of course). I think most adults would prefer Mr. Toad, unless they are big Pooh fans. Just my opinion.

I agree with the fast pass idea. We went on Dumbo and saw the Lion King show while we waited for our Pooh time.

Fort Wilderness Resort vs Cabins

by Jack

I will soon be booking my vacation soon for my family(ages:5,3,1) and would appreciate any info on FW Resort vs Cabins. Can you take a ferry to the Magic Kingdom from both? If so, how often does it run? Is it true you can rent golf carts while staying at the cabins to get around? Could we rent 2 for our family? Thank you very much for your help.

Do you mean Wilderness Lodge?

by

The two resorts are very different, but both are wonderful. WL is abosolutely gorgeous - the lobby alone with take your breath away. The pool is beautifully themed. Rooms are the smallest of the deluxe resorts, but still very comfortable and decorated great. Both sit down restaurants here are very good - Artist Point in particular.

Ft Wilderness Cabins/wilderness homes are veyr nice too. I've only stayed in the wilderness home - last time was in May of 99, but its a great place. You have a full kitchen and room to sleep 6 - so its great for larger groups or if you just want more space. You can rent golf carts at Ft Wilderness, but I'm not sure of the cost.

Both resorst are accessible to MK by boat and the other parks by bus. The there is a bus to the MK, but its not direct - you have to take the Crockett bus to TTC and transfer - which can be a pain and is the only way home if the boats are thru running (after E-night for instance).

Hope that helps!

I can't answer the question for E Nights in December but, you purchase the cards from youre hotel and take them to Magic Kingdom and trade them in for wrist bands. We did it on Sept 25th and it was great!!!!! Walked right on Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain at least 5 times in a row!!!!!!!!

E-Night

by

You have to be a Disney Resort guest (I think the DD hotels may participate now) and have a park hopper pass to qualify for e-night tickets.

Tickets must be purchased at your resort. There is a time limit on when you can get them in advance, but I'm not sure exactly how it works - I think you can only get them for the next upcoming E-night and not ones down the road.

Early Last Dec..

by Shannon

I was there the 1st and 2nd week in Dec 1999 and they did not offer the E Nights, they really didn't need too. The park was very slow, the longest wait was for Winnie the Pooh and that was only 30mins. I will be there again this year and I am hoping that it is not crowded due to the end of the Millenium Celebration. Hey but then if it is crowded maybe they would have a few E Nights...Either way I can't wait 55 days to go!!!

My husband, daughter and I went to the Ice Cream Social last May while we were visiting Epcot and it was a refreshing change of pace. The reservation times are only for 3:00 and 3:30 so the restaurant isn't crowded or noisy. The ice cream sundaes are delicious and HUGE!! Mickey, Goofy and Minne were there and spent a lot of time with our daughter which was great. I would highly recommend it - just don't eat a big lunch that day. Have fun :)

We had dinner at Fulton's on 9/14 and we made reservations the night before (8 people). I also just took a look at our Downtown Disney Map dated Sept 11-17, and under Fulton's it says Priority Seating suggested.

I would definitely follow-up.

We had a 6:30 reservation and barely made it to La Nouba for the 9:00 show. Everything was great except it took waayy too long for our entrees to arrive.

25 new monorails

by

The new Mark8's have been ordered from Bombardia.

We were up front in the monorail and the CM told us and verified it thru WSJ that 25 new monorails have been ordered.

No mention of track yet, but 25 would be doubling the current number of trains so ??? The current Mark6's will be rehabed (much needed) and sent to Disneyland. The new ones are rumored to not have drivers:(The one in Las Vegas doesn't).

They are building Alladins Magic Carpet Ride now and have closed off space across the path as well. The CM there told us its for another ride - a second new ride? That is just a rumor, but hopefully true!

New Monorails

by Joe,Sue&Joey

The rumor I saw stated that a New Line would go from EPCOT to MGM and another going from TTC to AK. The rumor was it would be ready for the 35 Aniversary next fall. The only fly in the ointment was that they may begin having a separate charge to ride the monorail.

It was wonderful! The weather was great - not too hot and just one little shower, but we were on Breathless at the time so we were already soaked!

Poly was very nice, concierge service is great! Snacks alone make it a good value! MK was extremely crowded Saturday due to a golf tourny that was in town, but the extended park hours which was nice.

I forgot how much I loved the ToN parade - and Reflections of Earth! We went to the Japan and stood on the balcony - great spot! (right in front Matso No Ma Lounge) I wish I were there now!

Okay - now I really need to get some work done!

Poly

by

Its funny in that while Poly is soooo great, beautiful grounds, rooms are nice, bathroom is huge - it seemed exactly like I remembered it from when I was a child 20 years ago!

You can't beat staying on the monorail! The boat is so nice too - transportation there is a breeze!

Concierge was great - tons of food at breakfast and snacks during the day. Some of the evening h'ordeuves (is that how you spell that?) came from O'hanas.

I was soooo impressed with O'hanas. The food was excellent and you got a TON of it! It is a great value for the cost. One of the best on property I think. Kona Cafe was nice too.

The pool is being rehabed, but we had passes to use any other pool on property so we headed to Stormalong Bay - we ended up riding on Breathless instead though!

Stormalong Bay

Is the pool for Yacht & Beach Club. They also have quiet pools, but this is there big one. It has a sand bottom and a small lazy river. It winds around and has a large flume type slide.

The pool is extemely well laid out and very well guarded. Only YC/BC guests and DVC guests can swim here.

We hadn't planned on doing Breathless this trip - but as we walked by we couldn't help but notice it wasn't busy and what could we do??? Its sooooo much fun!

I was on it

by

Ok I had mixed feelings about it. Keep in mind if they changed it since the last time I might be off a little. We started at EPCOT . We went to Body Wars simulator and theY took us underneath the unit and showed us how it worked and showed us a live run with people on it ( REALY NEAT). Next we went to American Adventure and they took us to the stage area we saw the boom hoists and other animatronics ....Didn't spend that much time here. Next off to the living seas....they showed us the manities and gave us a backstage look at the care and facilities in that building. Lots of time was spent there ......a little to long I thought , Like they where stretching out time. Next we went to MGM and saw the animation studio....we had an artist talk to us and got to draw a little and color or own cell in. Again a little to much time in here. We saw the costuming department and then headed to the street were the houses have false fronts . There we ate lunch in fron of the house ...Yes in plain view of the ride tour. We had a cast member that does acting like the great hollywood stars of the past talk to us about how she gets ready for a day and how she goes from character to character ( this is while we are eating to sort of kill to birds with one stone ). After we ate we headed to the magic kingdom area. First to the back of the production area where you see all the facilities and machines that make disney a fantasticaly run city.Next our group saw the area where they build everything. Then we went off through the tunnels and saw all the workings under there (COOLEST PART OF THE TOUR .TOO MUCH TO LIST). It's a bit pricy the tour but it has some fun points ...I really liked the tunnels with the DACS system and the body wars ride ...I wasn't much on the animation but if you like that stuff its a plus for you ....I won't say it wasn't worth the money I just think it could have been better ....BUT BY NO MEANS WAS IT BAD AT ALL . I HAD A FUN TIME AND YOU GET SOME GREAT LOOKS AT WHAT MAKES DISNEY , DISNEY. THE TOUR IS ON BUS AND SOME WALKING . fOOD WAS SANDWICHES THAT THEY SUPPLIED. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS E-MAIL ME AT MONDO1748@AOL.COM ****cAMERAS ARE FOR THE MOST PART BAND FROM THIS ....YOU CAN TAKE PICTURES BUT ONLY WHEN THEY SAY IT OK .....WHICH IS JUST ABOUT NEVER . SO SAVE THE FILM ....REMEMBER THAT THIS IS ALL BASED ON WHEN I WENT . If they changed it since then then I might be a little off

Backstage Magic

by Diane J

I did Backstage Magic last December and really enjoyed it. I agree with the other person who answered that too much time was spent in the Living Seas and in the animation building but it was worth the time spent there to see the rest of what the tour covers. We had lunch at Mama Melrose's and had a "street person" from MGM eat with us in "character" and then when we got back on the bus she returned to her normal self and asked if we had any questions. The meal was great and there was plenty of food. Once we got to the MK we took a ride around the grounds surrounding the MK and saw where they set off the fireworks, the parade barns where all of the floats are stored between parades, costuming dept, makeup dept, and the work area where repair work is done and new things are built. The tunnels were really neat to see and almost worth the cost of the tour. You really learn some interesting facts about the day to day operation of all of WDW. We were on a full size bus with soft drinks, water, iced tea, and snacks. Our tour guide was very informative and answered all questions and shared a lot of Disney trivia with us. I highly recommend the tour. No one under 16 is allowed and there is a limit to the number of people on each tour. I think it is 16. If you have an American Express card and you charge the cost of the tour, you save 20% and another 10% if you have an annual pass.
