The seasonal rain that generally occurs everyday is most often the case during the summer months. December's weather is often drier with regard to humidity and actual rain. That is not to imply that it never rains in December! The temperatures are warm during the day and cooler at night which makes a jacket and trousers good items to bring with you. It is not unheard of for December to have isolated instances of quite cold weather. And the reverse is also true. It is not unheard of for December to have quite hot weather! In a very general sense, December is mild with few weather extremes and brings a close to the end of the hurricane season. Hope this helps!

Car Hire/Railroad transport from Miami/Fort Lauderdale
by Pat
We will be arriving at one of these airports in early December 2000 in order to spend a week at Disney. We are looking for:
1.Car hire company recommendations (websites/emails if possible)and their rates and
2.Similar details for the train service if a quick and reliable service is available.

I am planning a family vacation at WDW for mid-November 2001. There will be five of us -- me, my husband, my twins (who will be 2 1/2) and my mother. I have narrowed it down to Magic Kingdom resorts, so we can get back to our room quickly for afternoon naps. But I haven't stayed at any of the MK resorts and am having a hard time deciding between them. Toddler pools/playgrounds would be a plus, since we will probably only do half days at the parks. Any advice would be appreciated.

This is a winnner for a hotel . It even gets the boards approval it seems when it comes down to it . I like only the contemporary for the monorail going through the center of it and the character breakfast ..... It us to have a massive game room with a cool shooting gallery adults would even love but it was taken out and so was the theater in there . I know not many people remember that but its what made the contemporary better then the polyn. all those years but Polyn. is now the best .

If you stay at the Polynesian, you will be close to the monorail and ferry boat departures. One of the longhouses, which we stayed in is less than 1/2 block from those departure areas. The toddler pools are nice, both the themed and regular ones.
It is quieter there than the Contemporary or Grand Floridian. Our son was 7 when we stayed there and he was so tired by mid afternoon and wanted to rest and this turned out to be the best place for him. The white sand beach by the long house closest to the transportation center overlooks the fireworks at night and you can sit on a blanket and watch them without being actually in the park!

I've been recommending happy limo to visitors on this board for a long time due to the excellent service my family received at great prices. They happen to be the exclusive transpot for this site as well meaning they the recommendation of webmistress of this site, so try em out and u'll probablly save some money

travelling from UK and staying at CBR in December. I understand that you can get disney discount with your american express card, but can't find anything on their (amex) web site. Is it true, and does anyone know if it applies to uk-issued amex cards??
Thanks,
Andie

Hi, we booked our vacation through American Express - and also stayed at CBR. My husband had collected tons of 'points' since he uses his Am Ex for business. We were able to trade the points for our stay. Other Am Ex 'perks' or discounts seemed few and far in between for us. We got a fanny pack upon arrival at CBR and we got 15% off purchases over $50 in select stores. But that was about it. Other than trading in the points for vacation - the discounts didn't seem to help much in my opinion. I don't know how all of this applies to UK visitors...I'm in the states. Have a great trip.

We usually take some cash with us, but take the majority in travelers cheques. Most places will also take cards (I'm not sure about the stands).
We've never had a problem at Disney, but something could always happen. We were advised this past trip to sign our room keys as
"please ask for ID" Granted not all of the CM's asked for it or even checked, but it was a bit of an eye opener. We were told that the police have been reccomending that.

It can be used by park guests, not just resort guests. I think its supposed to be for guests holding WDW theme park tickets, but I've never seen them check for ID.

Did you know that a number of companys who sponser attractions at WDW have lounges for their employee's. The lounges offer free beverages, head of line privilege for their attraction, dinner reservations etc. Some of the ones we know about include: Kodak - Imagination, MET Life - Body wars, Exxon - Universe of Energy, GM - Test Track, Fed X - Space Mountain, Mcdonalds - Countdown to extintsion, and AT& T - Space Mountain. Ask your company's HR rep for details if your corporation is a sponser.

AT&T used to sponsor Spaceship Earth - we used my mothers privilege there one year. I'm not sure if its still the case of not.
We also used it at Universal's ET attraction. They didn't have a lounge exactly, but you got to go in the office section and I remember watching a video about the production of the ride.

I was curious too. Did you book the towere room from the outset or did you get an upgrade? Did you book through WDW online or on your own? I stayed on a wing last Feb and am thinking about doing it again. What's the going rate and did you get the resort magic plan? Sorry for all the questions but it will really help me decide.

Hi Michelle, Just come back from 2 weeks in WDW and during that time had a Villains Dinner. It was one of the best meals we had there. Captain Hook, The Queen of Hearts, Prince John and Governor Ratcliffe were all there and my granddaughter who is 6 was totally enthralled by them. There were also us three adults who were equally enchanted, the characters were absolutely wonderful and when we came back the thing we were all talking about was "Do you remember the Villains Dinner". I don't think they do a breakfast. One other thing, if you can, go and have a grand afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. It's from 2.00pm until I think 6.00pm and there is no priority seating but it is absolutely wonderful and the food is totally scrummy. Hope this is ok

Pat, my family went in Sept of 97. We took the mears shuttle from orlando airport to All Star music. It is not that is was really horrible but I felt so unsafe in the shuttle van. They packed us in like sardines I had a tiny little corner of the outer edge of the seat. I also felt I was in New York City waiting for a cab due to all the smog and noise(honking) at the loading area. Our wait was about 20 minutes for our shuttle. We are leaving for Disney this Nov10 and decided a town car was best for us. We had to stay with Mears due to a package we purchased. I can't remember how the upgrade was but we got the meet and greet package where they are supposed to meet you at package pick up. ran out of room will pst 2
Posted on Oct 20, 2000, 6:07 AM from IP address 63.21.165.210
mears shuttle to Disney roundtrip cost is $27 for adult and $19 for children ages4-11. 3 and under are free with adult purchase. I am pretty sure it was about $30 more for meet and greet. I have heard wonderful things about tiffany town car on this board , you may want to look in to that route. Well, have a great trip and my opinion of mears shuttle is just that my opinion, others may have had no problem. keep researching and choose what is best for you.

Mears is fine if you aren't in a hurray and don't mind being crowded, but its actually more expensive when you have more people.
We have used Tiffany in the past and highly reccomend them. The cost is around $70-80 for up to five people (you can find coupons on the internet for them).
We just used Mears last month (it was only two of us) and we were crowded, late and the driver made a u-turn in DD that terrified us all. He didn't even know how to get to some of the resorts!
I think you will break even in cost with 4 people. Its much nicer to have someone meet you at baggage claim then to wait in line for a crowded van!
Posted on Oct 20, 2000, 8:57 AM from IP address 209.49.242.36
we have used happy limo for a few times & their service is excellent plus they have the lowest rates. their driver meets yuo in the baggage claim area and will even stop at a grocery store free of charge. Just click on their ad above and you can make a reservation online.

We just returned from our trip to WDW. We used Tiffany towncar service from the Airport to All-star Music and back. The price was $75. It was wonderful. Our flight was delayed 6 hours and Richard, our driver, was waiting at the bottom the the escalator for us with a little sign with our names on it. He helped us get our luggage and we were off. He was very informative and funny. He got us there in a hurry. The funny thing was when we were leaving the airport, we looked over and saw this horde of people from our flight all fighting to get on the Mears shuttle. Even with a tip to Richard, we saved money and it was much more special and convenient.

I'm told that if you or your child is celebrating a birthday while at WDW, you can go to City Hall on Main Street in the MK to get a Birthday Button. What I don't know, however, is what proof do you need of the birthday? We are taking one of our grandchildren next June, and she will have a birthday while we are there. I'd love to get her some extra "pixie dust" on her special day, but I don't know what we need to take to prove it is really Catie's birthday! I'd appreciate it very much if you could find out, if it's not too much trouble, that is.
Thanks and have a great time!

I would love to know if I can purchase a gift certificate for Water Mice (any resort is fine). We are going January 2002 and would like to give my DH a 1/2 hour ride with his wonderful wife for a Christmas Gift (with kids tucked away at Neverland of course!) If no certificates are sold I will just make one and give it to him with Disney $$.
Thanks

Hi Gary - I need to know whether I will be able to have someone download the images from my camera's memory disc to a stiffy disc at Disney and if so what it would cost ? I have a DC 290 kodak camera and will be at Disney in December. We'd also like to get an idea of what meals cost - eg burger, fries and soda. Thanks

We've got 4 days to go...I've got some final questions
by
We'll be in WDW for the very first time shortly and I'd like to know if I should plan on renting a stroller for my 5 year (he turns 6 during the trip). We'll be staying at DL.
Also, I know this is a question that is asked alot, however, for 7 days/8 nights what would be considered sufficient spending money? I don't particularly plan to scrimp on food and would like to have some spending money for souvernirs. (It's just myself, husband and 5 year old).
Thanks for any help you can provide!

That includes food Bkfst for 3=$25, lunch=$35, dinner=$60 and that leaves about $80 for t-shirts, toys, film, snacks, those cute photos they take of you on the ride, extra charges for e-nights, parking tolls...

Both Joanne and Deb have some very good info on E-Ticket nights on their websites. This is how it works: If you are a resort guest and you have either have a Length of Stay Pass, Seasonal Pass, Premium Annual Pass, Park Hopper Pass, Annual Pass, or All in One Park Hopper Pass, for a minimal fee, you can purchase a ticket that allows you to stay 3 hours past normal closing time.
Not all attractions are open during this time. So you might want to read what Deb and Joanne have to say before you commit yourself to purchasing tickets. You will have to decide if your 6 year old is able to stay up that late. And given the limited number of attractions open, you will also need to decide if it is worth keeping the child up that late.
Let me know what you decide and how it works out. I am taking a couple of 8-year olds next June and we may decide to take advantage of an E-Ticket night, if there is one while we are there.
Have fun!

I wouldn't do the stroller thing (I would do this instead)
by
I think your 5 year old will do just fine without a stroller to slow you down. You might want to think about going back to your room for a nap during the afternoon instead. (even if you just lay around and watch tv) We do this and it makes a world of difference. The Disney transportation systems is very good and allows for easy trips from here to there.
As far as the money gos we also bring $200.oo per day. (This is for meals, snacks and souvernirs)
Hope you have a great time! Just remember this is a vacation and yall should enjoy every moment of it! My motto when I go is "Don't worry about it, Im on Vacation"!
~~Joyfull~~

We took our 2 daughters to WDW when they were 3 & 5 (nearly 6). At the start of the vacation the 5 year old was fine without a stroller but after a few days she started to get really tired of walking around a lot (even with a rest midday). We had taken our own stroller for the younger one but rented a park stroller on those occasions when they both needed a ride. For those few extra dollars it was worth it to keep her happy, and we also lasted longer into the evenings than if she'd been walking. And let's face it, those few dollars are not much extra when you look at the whole cost of the vacation! Enjoy!
Posted on Oct 19, 2000, 1:59 PM from IP address 193.113.185.136
Stay on the $200 idea it might be a little more some days a little less others but it should balance out . Overal I would think if you didn't do MUCH more then eat on somedays it will come out to a little less the $200 a day . As far as the stroller I would say Disney is alot of walking for a 5 year old so either carry him or rent a stroller or The worst of them all put up with a kid that will get cranky and tired from walking all day ( unless you take alot of brakes but then you miss alot of disney in the meantime)
