responseby Nicole BrooksAlthough I am not familiar with Cooper and his other thoughts regarding American writers, I find this passage rather conceited. The Europeons were fortunate that printing was so cheap, extending the opportunity to mass produce their work. In America, the cost was extremely high, so it limited the works that were published. I believe that since the Europeons were able to produce so much more it gave a large number of people the ablity to create... They were bound to stumble on a variety of great writing. The odds were in their favor. On the contrary less work was being produced in America, so the talent was less apparent. I do believe that production cost played a role in the ability to produce writings by the Americans, but it did not restrain the ablity to create wonderful works. Nicole Brooks Goto Forum Home |
