The Bizarre Love Triangle

by Jenny Micko

I think that Blithedale would make a great movie as long as it had a strong cast. The narrative struture is a challange, but with the right cast a lot of what would need to be accomplished could be done through strong acting with intense characterization. For example, I think that throughout the novel there exists the idea that Coverdale has some type of affection for Priscella. In the movie, this affection could be conformed by facial expressions when she is around him, his immediate response when he first encounters her. Also, something that could aid the narrative is music. Music in films tells us a lot about the tome and feeling of scenes. Ultimately though, if they were to make a movie, I would like the screenwriter.director to take some artistic liberties. For example, why change the ending so that Coverdale does indeed procliam his love for another, like Hollingsworth maybe. After all, this is the 90'S!
My Modern Cast:
Alec Baldwin - Coverdale
Gabriel Byrne - Hollingsworth
Zenobia - Helen Hunt
Priscella - Claire Danes

Classic Movie Cast
Lawrence Oliver - Coverdale
Humphrey Bogart - Hollingsworth
Greer Garson - Zenobia
Audrey Hepburn - Priscella
