First let me say that I agree that The Blithedale Romance has the potential to be a great movie.I think that one of the diffuculties is that many such period pieces fail to draw an audience in this day and age of inane action movies.This is a shame because one of the most powerful movies I have seen in the last several years is The Crucible ,written by the brilliant playwright Arthur Miller.It is the story of the Salem Witch Trials and I highly reccomend it.
As for my casting of 'Blithedale'; Anthony Hopkins is my choice for Hollingsworth,he is someone who can portray a complex charismatic leader I believe the part calls for.My choice for Coverdale is Robert Downey Jr.Zenobia is the toughest one to cast,Glenn Close has both the strength and beauty for the role.Gwyneth Paltrow seems the obvious choice for Priscilla.But I also liked Leon S's choice of Calista Flockhart.
