my friend and i took probably close to 3,000 pics (if not 4,000) but most were driving down the road. such a shame to invest what i did in the camera only to mainly use it in auto mode - not to mention held up through the sunroof! ok, in nyc i did manage to stand up and stick my head through the sunroof as well. i'm sure we were entertainment for the locals.

we did manage a handful of gorgeous pics but that's because of the scenery, not the photographers. i'll work on getting some up but i'm still in recovery mode - day 8 we drove from niagra falls to DC and arrived at the hotel at 4:30a. was nice to have all our lodging (except one night) pre-arranged (i normally fly by the seat of my pants) but when you're in pittsburgh at 12:30 am and you still have another 4hrs to drive to your hotel, it kinda sucks.

almost looks like a colored pencil drawing instead of a photo.

camera: rebel xsi

what's missing on this one? a flag and flag pole. only a small portion of the base and the top of the pole showed up. i tried re-creating it but it didn't quiet turn out right - so, i removed what was showing up.

They do look like drawings.

Did you overexpose them on purpose? What were the shooting condidtions like?

thanks but afraid not. i was just messing with the settings to see what i could come up with. the day had started with the threat of a storm ... which one did blow in - blew branches down all over downtown, but by the time we got off the trolley, ate and then walked to the capital, things had cleared up.

here's another taken with a different setting.

shutter speed: 1/3158 sec
aperture: f/3.5
focal length: 21mm
f-number: 3.5
eposure time: 1/3200 sec
iso: 125

but the ones taken of the nubble lighthouse at york, maine and at acadia natl park were the best. i've got some better ones of both of these areas. i'll try get around to posting them later this week or the next.

ty, i'd like to take credit for that but ...

that picasa program has an effects tab that includes 'sharpen'. sometimes i notice a difference, other times no change. i'm not sure if i used it on both of these or not. regardless, i can tell that i need to really start playing with and learning the camera. i've not captured anything close to what you and lars post ... and trust me, i take tons of pics of the same thing with slight changes in settings or vantage point ... just hoping something miraculous will turn up ... by accident. when it was film, it was always a crap shot ... at least with digital ... it's just a matter of how much time you have to push the button and change the settings.

ps: i am using the heck out of the 'straighten' feature on the picasa program ... hard to judge if something's level when you have your arm extended through the sunroof!
