| Presumably the people who post here realize they are a bit weird, but I
wonder if they realize just how weird they seem and what a bad
impression this makes. Take a look at any normal forum
like Lonely Planet Thorn Tree or Digital Photography Review forums, or
even Immortality Institute, then come here and see the difference. You
do not make a good impression. (I am trying to be polite about this.)
Try to imagine how an outsider sees someone like "Finance Department."
While I have not read the entire archive but so far as I can tell, FD is
not a member of a cryonics organization, he has no experience working
in a cryonics organization, and apparently has never participated in a
cryonics case. But he still feels entitled to tell cryonics organizations
how to run their businesses in the most sneering way.
What amazing arrogance!
Also he never refers to any of his own experience or credentials as
a financial "expert" even while he demands
that other people should be qualified. So are you an accountant, FD?
Did you ever actually manage a business yourself?
Do you have an MBA? Forgive me if you
mentioned your credentials years ago, but since you only lecture
people without talking about your own experience, I have to wonder.
Charles Platt seem to be the ultimate flame target. He too comes
off somewhat arrogant, but no more than most here, so, that alone
cannot be the problem. Maybe some personal issue? Patio furniture
cannot be the real reason! But no one mentions anything that
would explain the anger.
All they know is they hate CP. But he keeps posting, like
a guy with KICK ME painted on his back. I cannot figure what his
motivation can possibly be, unless he enjoys being abused. CP likes
to refer to himself as a "journalist" but when you check Amazon you
find he has written quite a bit of pornography. The reviews are funny.
"the most disgusting and completely unbelievable cult trash" says one
reviewer. "makes you want to laugh and puke at the same time" says
another. I wonder if CP put that on his resume when he applied for his
cryonics jobs. But he seems immune to embarrassment. Isn't he the
one who hired a paramedic who tired to put Alcor Foundation out of business?
And then he hired the woman who's trying to put SA out of business?
If someone has a business that they want to bankrupt for tax reasons,
clearly they should get CP to find them a new employee. Where
on earth does he find these unbalanced people?
Naturally this brings me to the poster calling herself Melody Maxim,
which I find it hard to believe is a real name. MM refers to
herself as a perfusionist with "vast" experience and more recently a
"perfusion technologist" as if "perfusionist" was not quite impressive
enough. You know, People who
really know what they are doing don't have to boast about it. For
instance I have read debates with Aubrey de Grey and he never needs to
say "I am a BIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST with VAST experience." It's silly and
embarrassing, and makes me almost feel sorry for her,
with all that anger and need to impress people (in a cryonics
chat forum!)
Has she ever given her real credentials? Where did she work? Why
is she now an ex-perfusionist? Did she quit voluntarily or did she
start complaining about the surgeon's patio furniture? I would guess
that hospitals are less tolerant of than kind of thing than cryo orgs.
Clearly all she cares about is attacking Platt, as if she's pit bull
which was given a whiff of Platt's underwear a month ago and has been
barking at him since then. But to be a bit more serious,
she reminds me of my own daughter who used to throw little tantrums
about boys at school. She would come home and say, "Johnny Smith
pulled my braids again today. I hate him, I hate him, I hate him!" You
know, being "professional" means you don't humiliate yourself in
public like that. Just being an adult means you dn't act like that.
And like FD she has apparently never participated in a cryonics case.
Does she even know anything about emergency medicine? Why is being a
perfusionist such a big deal? I see that at
the Texas Heart Institute or St Vincents in New York you can
become a Certified Clinical Perfusionist after only one year
of training. You don't even need a nursing degree, and the only
pre-requisite is a bachelor's. Doesn't sound very special to0 me.
Then we get to George, seemingly a nice guy, but sort of like a
post office clerk. He knows what he knows and if you try to debate
reasonably with him he still knows what he knows, and if you get mad at
him he still knows what he knows. I'll give him points for focus I
guess. There are people like George everywhere, but the interesting
thing to me is that like everyone here, he feels he is an Authority.
You don't find George asking questions of people who have more
knowledge or experience than he. He knows what he knows, and
needs no advice from anyone. Really you guys should go to other
"normal" forums and look at the difference. There is an air travel
site I know, where I see posts from people in the industry as
well as travelers. People go there to get information, not to indulge
in character assassination. You don't see anyone saying "I am a
professional flight attendant with VAST experience and I know for sure
that the crash at LGA was caused by pilot error, because that moron
John Doe was piloting the plane, and by the way, he cheats on his log
sheet, and he got my friend Carol to give him a blow job in the
toilet." People behave with normal good manners, and in any
case the moderator wouldn't allow personal diatribes.
And that brings me to my last point. Cold Filter is supposed to be a
moderated list!! Where's the moderator? Does he see all this boasting
and lecturing and posturing? Maybe he is not
signed up for cryonics and just wants to discredit the field on the
old "give them enough rope" principle? If that's the way it is, I have
to congratulate him on a successful strategy.
Note I am not disagreeing with any of the facts, because,
I am not qualified to discuss cryonics procedure, and unlike the rest of
you I am not afraid to admit it. |
