I agree with you that there are times when extreme measures must be taken to support life, but I also think there are times when the damage done in order to preserve life can be worse than death. This is a very complicated topic with many nuances, details that should probably be worked out in a living will or discussed with a medical surrogate. But I don't think it's a reason to give up on either option entirely. Both "paths" have their time and place. And neither one is entirely guaranteed.
