Hi, TViolet, I know you think I'm nutty and well you're right, but I came in here anyways first out of curiousity and then after I saw it to tell you how nice it looks. Good job!

You're missing the fun, TViolet. Again... :(

by Ethel

Things happen so fast I never think to e-mail you or anything in time... sorry!

It seems there's another little "battle" going on,
though I don't think it'll measure up to the one from last week.

This time, Basil's friend Oscar (one of Mlle. Relda's characters) got kidnapped by Ratigan,
and Basil and his girlfriend are trying to save
him. Some of the action took place on either page
2 or page 3 of the Basil forum, and it's continuing on Ratters'.

Guess who just got her own copy of GMD!

by TViolet

Yay, I made it back here again! And I've got my very own copy of one of the best Disney movies ever! It's actually the older cover, I thought I was getting the new one, but for six bucks it ain't bad!

Can anyone tell me if the new one has any extras on it? Is it just newer previews and the movie itself? I was hoping they'd have some kind of 4-minute documentary thing at the end, like they did for Bambi and Sleeping Beauty, but I guess not, huh? I haven't been able to check the new release.

Well thanks for helping me keep this forum alive, Highness! You're such a pal!

Yeah

by TViolet

I found it at EBay, and the guy probably still has some copies. I don't know why they'd be so cheap, being in factory condition, except the cover to mine had some wrinkles on the plastic in back, with some weird food gunk on it. That's probably it, but man, would it knock twenty bucks off the price?

Speaking of movie prices, when did they suddenly hike up to 26 bucks anyway? So what if they've got luxury liners and new theme parks to maintain, it's still lame how they've gotta make everything so expensive.

Anyway--
I mostly wanted the new cover because Baz looks just so dashing with that pose. He IS the Sherlock Holmes of the Mouse World! Yes. So what if you can see the broad paint strokes in the background, I think it makes a cool effect. Of course I've said this before, but nobody agrees with me. :P Is fine, I feel all original.

The only "extras", as far as I know, are the references to the contest that recently ended
(the one where you get the free book? The artwork sux, btw). But the picture looks better
too, and the new one, of course, is close captioned. The sound is better too.

What I wish is that Disney videos would all come out in a letter-box format. Though it still isn't
the same as seeing it up on the screen...

I was expecting maybe ten dollars, but whewwww... What's also weird was alla sudden the movies I've been going crazy looking for suddenly appear on video once again-- like Labyrinth & Return to Oz, & of course GMD. Anyway I'm rambling-- if you're serious about giving me one of your copies let's talk over email, k?

Yummy!

by

I've seen the animated series of "SH in the 22nd Century". Unfortunately, I cringe at a great deal of content of the series. Being a purist of SH Canon, I criticise so much of the content. And as an artist, criticise the animation. However, despite its faults, I like the fact they are trying to get SH into a wider younger audience. I like that!

As for Jeremy Brett's nightie in BLUE -- OUCH! YES, that's golden moment there!!! Mrs Hudson tries to wake an over-sleeping Holmes because Peterson the Comissioner wanted to see him. He covers his face and groans at her, "Oh please, go away!"

If you like that nightie scene, watch NORW (The Norwood Builder) for its nightie scene or "Master Blackmailer" for the bathing scene. Classics there!

Cheers!

Whoa, I have been missing a lot... *lol*

by Ethel TMQ

I can't wait to get back to the video store!

I've got mixed feelings about that SH cartoon myself. The animation is nice, and the premise isn't bad, though I kinda hate seeing Dr. Watson as a robot / cyborg / whatever. I guess they thought today's kiddies are too "sophisticated"
(a nicer term for jaded) to appreciate the original Victorian setting of the stories. I don't think kids in Japan would've minded---as a
former anime fan, I think they seemed to like the older settings of cartoons as well as futuristic. Sherlock Hound, for instance, was set in the early 1900's. Anime wasn't all Galaxy Express and Captain Harlock...

Poor poor children...

by

Yes American kids are more into the futuristic images, which is awful. I also dislike Watson as a robot, and he is still portrayed as an idiot, which is worse, plus he constantly has to remind us that he's a robot. Of course, I never pictured Watson and Holmes with THAT much facial hair, either. What I do like is Lestrade as a woman, he's fiery, I like that! But alas, I believe the series is torturing children -- as a Sherlockian, it's torturing me!

Sherlock Hound I like! It's wonderful! I wish I could watch more of the series, however.

It's kinda wierd, really...

by The Mouse Queen

Not Sherlock Hound (which is marvelous!)but the former. This is only the third episode I've seen, and it's the first time I actually saw the opening of it. The premise is really strango...
resurrecting Holmes and giving him a different body (albeit a rather handsome face! ). That might have made a better live-action movie or series than a cartoon. It might be better to have Holmes go into a time warp and be in the future...actually, I'm thinking of doing a story like that for Basil. (it was inspired by THE TIME MACHINE, however, not the above cartoon)

Let's face it, dearie---we were just born too late. Where can I find a time machine to crawl into? There are times when Y2K just sucks.

Let's do the time warp again!

by TViolet

I don't know about you but I like the scenario of SH in the future. Yes kids like futuristic more than nostalgic, it's the very nature of youth, looking to the future, etc. After you get a bit older, you begin to appreciate historical stuff. Well that's what I think.

And it's just a different take on SH, with him in the distant future and new machines and everything. Holmes is just too great a force to condemn to a single era.

On the animation, of course it's lousy, it's always lousy with things like these, the designs and the time constraints and everything. The design of SH though is more than passable, in fact he's down right good-looking at times, when he's not too hastily drawn.
What I really like about 22nd century, is the gymastic stuff Sherlock does from time to time, like flipping off walls to dodge laser blasts. That's reason enough for me to vote for him at Kat's AL!

A joke

by

I don't know if you've heard this before, but here goes:

Sherlock turns to Watson and says, "Watson, look up. What do you see?"
Watson looks up and he says, "I see the night sky. I see the moon and the stars."
"And what can you deduce from this, Watson?"
Watson thinks for a moment, and then he says, "I don't know. What does it mean?"
"It means that someone has stolen our tent."
