HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHERLOCK HOLMES!!! :)

by Ethel TMQ

Amazing...two things to celebrate today: the Festival of Fools and Sherlock Holmes' 154th birthday!!! Like I said, something told me to watch Great Mouse Detective (for the umpteenth time!), get loaded and scarf down chocolate!
Happy Birthday, O Great Detective!!! :)

146th B-day

by Sweeper887

According to popular belief...

Sherlock Holmes was born on January 6, 1854. Jan. 6 was determined by the twelth night reference...and I can't remember why 1854...but it is that year.

We still have time to be in London for the celebration of the 150 B-Day of Holmes - it's in another 4 years... I plan to be there (whether I am or not, is a different story, though).

I didn't give him one either... ;)

by

Unless he appreciated me getting loaded while watching The Great Mouse Detective and scarfing down Oreos...he'd better have appreciated it, because I had a whale of a hangover before the day was out!

I had a less painful celebration a few days later...I rented a bunch of Sherlock-oriented tapes, including a Jeremy Brett one and Spielberg's great epic, YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES, which I thought was wonderful!

Happy early birthday, TViolet! Mine's in April, on the day the Titanic started sinking! =:(

Do you know what day it is, Professor?

by

Yes, January 6. I just got a wire, it's accordingly Topsy-tury Day. Yet ironically, it is also Sherlock Holmes' birthday as well. He's 146!

I take it, dahling, you do not wish to throw a party? Okay! I'll be WAAYYYY over there. We'll discuss the Aberline Family case later.

Cheers!

Whoa, I guess I AM loaded... Hey, I'd be more than HAPPY to throw a party...if I'd known this earlier I would have, though actually, I have had a party of sorts...I got "lonesome loaded" and scarfed down cheese and Oreos!!! I hope Sherlock would've been proud...

Uh...sorry to show my ignorance, but who is the
Aberline Family? (I'm ashamed to say I'm not as up on the Sherlock stories as I should be...)

Basil says "Happy New Year from London"! He's over there right now for the opening of the Millenium dome, and right now he's watching them
try to set the Thames on fire. And so far, it's thumbs up with the computers, though I'm shutting down tonight anyway.

Yes, I think I'll get the whole set of the Sherlock stories. I like the ones with the late Jeremy Brett, too.

Our discussions got pretty crazy, didn't they? "Dr. Strangemouse" is going to be a character in some fan-fiction I'm hoping to do. I am working on some for Mlle. Relda's site; I also sent some to TViolet, and hopefully she got it ok. Often I have to send an article, etc. by .txt mode. I hate to do it that way, though, because the formatting doesn't come through like with .wps mode.

Just checked out your new forum, btw...it's neat!
Thanks for the link...

from the latest Basil book (from the library)I've
gotten, "Basil and the Lost Colony". It's called an Inverness cape. Amazing what you can learn

What matters is we finally know what the heck that
thing is!

Oh, I wish you could have been with me at Disney World. When I went to the United Kingdom pavilion
at EPCOT, I found some genuine, bonafide Sherlock Holmes deerstaker caps, made in Ireland of 100%
wool. The only thing that kept me from buying one was the price: $100!!! Much as I love Sherlock AND Basil, I had to draw the line somewhere. But I did have my picture taken wearing one of them, as well as a photo of a leather chair similar to one Holmes himself might have sat in. I wish you had been with me at Baskervilles', TViolet---it was Holmes Heaven!

Maybe we should have a Basil/Sherlock convention at Disney next year?

It's so good to hear from you again. Hope your holidays were nice!

Leslie Howard

by TViolet

Those of you who've read 'Mouse Under Glass' (Or my pathetic little essay thingie "Basil vs. Basil") may know that Basil's design was originally to be based on Bing Crosby, but then they decided on *Leslie Howard*. For the longest time I didn't even know who this guy WAS, let alone what he looked like. I had a picture of him at my website for a while but then it disappeared on me.... I'll find another one tho.

Anyway last night I couldn't sleep so I stayed up watching this movie called "It's Love I'm After." LO-O-O-OOOVE It! And I think you guys would love it too-- Leslie Howard is a snooty actor named Basil Underwood (eh? eeeeh? Basil dangit, BASIL!) who's engaged to one lady who's kind of a pain, but he loves her, but he starts falling for this girl who's a HUGE fan of his....
It's mostly a verbal comedy, and the jokes come a mile a minute, and it's just too delicious-- don't miss it for the world!!!

The more stuff I see Leslie Howard in, the more I like him! I wonder why he never played Sherlock Holmes. Hmmmm...

Oh yes-- Happy Holidays y'all!

I would have said goodbye on your forum, TViolet,
but I was having trouble posting stuff to the
Net 54 forums for some reason.

I'll tell you much more later, but I spent a
week at Disney World. I stayed at Coronado Springs resort, but I might stay at the Grosvenor
next time, because that's the home of Baskerville's! I found out, they don't actually
have a Sherlock MUSEUM, per se, but they do have
several exhibits. I took lots of pictures, and
I'll try to get them on a CD-rom so I can hopefully upload them. The food there is wonderful, too!

I KNOW, this place is totally neglected by its maintainer! I'm so bad!!! It hasn't been easy getting online lately, cuz I'm always watching my nephew and I can't put him anywhere by himself in this house-- not exactly child-proofed yet. And he gets literally bored to tears at the library

for further ranting-- our "office" has been converted into my brother's bedroom, but the computer's still in here. So if I wanna go online, I need HIS permission! *PUH*

I saw THE SECRET WEAPON today!! :)

by TMQ

And now I know how Disney got the idea for Basil's
disguise in the pub scene (besides a bit from the
original book): Sherlock disguises himself as
a sailor and walks with a limp. And incidentally,
a guy with a peg-leg (shades of FIDGET!!!)accosts
him.

Then at the end, Moriarty tries to get away and
falls 60 feet into the sewers. H*ll of a way to
die, man...

Unless this was the last time for Moriarty, it'll
probably be like it was in this episode: Holmes
assumed he died, then somehow the guy came back
(though how he could survive a 60-foot fall in
a sewer?).

the moriarty conspiracy

by TViolet

It was the same in "Adventures Of", everyone assumed Moriarty was dead except for Holmes, whose suspicion was confirmed when dear old James dropped by for an unexpected visit.

Yet another item of confuzzlement, there are at least 3-4 actors who play Moriarty against Ratters' Holmes! Maybe they're all different James Moriartys, from the same family, all up against the one detective spoiling all their criminal fun.

My fave Moriarty

by TViolet (She's back!!)

I liked the one in "Adventures Of" the best. "You've murdered a flower! For that you should be hanged!" Come to think of it that part was kinda hokey, but it still makes moriarty seem pretty nasty!
Henry Daniel (the Woman in Greeen Moriarty) is a favorite of many Sherlockians, and he's a pretty cool customer alright.. but his ape-face bugs me *LOL*

Nice to see y'all again!
