Wonder what Sherlock would do with a computer?

by

Can you imagine how delighted he'd have been to get on the Internet? He'd have solved oodles of cases without ever leaving Baker Street!

Say, THERE'S a story waiting to happen... ;)

Now THERE'S a thought! I'm sure he wouldn't stay home as much, but when he WAS home he'd certainly be digesting lotsa info on the computer, w/o even having to step out for the morning paper! Yessiree, Holmesie would find it handy alright.

But the one who'd REALLY love the net would be Mycroft, 'specially since he sits around at home all the time solving mysteries anyway! It'd probably spare him the unnecessary labor of walking across the room. *L*

Oh yeah, and Dr. Watson! He'd have way less trouble keeping in touch with his patients, whenever Mrs. Hudson isn't online downloading SECRET stuff................

Oh, and by the way, I had a nice surprise last
night on the A & E---on their "Mysteries To Die
For" series, they ran an episode of Sherlock Holmes: "The Dancing Men". I forget the name
of the dude who played Sherlock, but he was awfully good---though NO Basil Rathbone. (BR
was not only the epitome of Holmes, but a rather
good looker as well. This other guy just looked
undernourished, though he did play the part well)

Jeremy Brett!

by Violet

Some Sherlockians/Holmesians think HE'S the ultimate Sherlock Holmes. I think there may have been bitter battles between Rathbonian & Brettish fans.
I'm on Ratters' side, tho.
Fans of Jeremy like him I guess because of his neat figure (in earlier eps), and that stagy performance. He's just OUT THERE! I like that too, his yelling and stuff. *L* 'Scuse me, I'm trying to listen to Anastasia and THINK at the same time, & I don't recommend it.
A couple seasons later, Brett was having heart trouble and he put on weight. In the book about the series, he apologizes for not being as lean as he used to be. "My doctor has informed me that very soon I will be lean once more."
Jeremy Brett was a SUPER-nice guy in real life, and like Ratters, wasn't too crazy about playing such a "depressing" part like the calculating Holmes.

Anyway, the series kicks proverbial ask! My fave episode is "The Solitary Cyclist," and I'm not even sure why. But that's where I got the name "Violet Smith." Plus I can play the song excerpt Violet plays on that one.

And one more "BLAH!" before I go!

Oh, I do like him, tho...

by The Mouse Queen

He did play the Holmester quite well, and he looks
like you'd expect Sherlock to look. I intend to
see more of those episodes, too.

Of course, for a "sexy" Sherlock, Rathbone is hard to beat. I just rented a couple of his
movies---"The Woman In Green" and "Dressed to Kill." Alas, I couldn't find "They Might Be Giants"---I'll either have to buy the tape or
hope they run it on TV.

Dang it, there's another one I'll miss.

On the lighter side, who do you think could play
an American Sherlock Holmes?

Morbid. Anywho, another Sherlockian said she wouldn't go to anoth blasphemous Holmes movie unless Ralph Fiennes was playing him. Of course, she has a real thing for Ralph..
even so, I can see him with a deerstalker & calabash. I mean, check out "The Avengers!" Woo!

But he's not an American actor so fergit it.
The first *American* potential holmes that comes to mind is Jeff Goldblum... except... well he's tall enough at least. Oh, but wouldn't it be cute?!

by The Mouse Queen

The name Ralph Fiennes is familiar, but I can't remember the face. Yeah, I think Jeff Goldblum
would do ok. I haven't seen the new Avengers yet
(I still remember the old one with Diana Rigg and
Patrick MacNee).

If they didn't mind a sexy looking Holmes, I'd
go for Pierce Brosnan, though I don't know if he
has the figure for it (since Holmes was traditionally considered rather tall and thin).

I had to be a beast today---check out the latest

Sherlockian Cartoons!

by Violet

Tomorrow morning, check out Fox just before Godzilla comes on. That cartoon I mentioned in the Animation Forum: "Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century.." I've no idea just HOW good it will turn out, but I got a huge kick out of the first episode I saw last week!

Gor blimey, what an atrocious quasi-British accent Holmes has though! And his face from head-on is kinda weird-looking... Not to mention it depicts Holmes yet-again out of his element and sort of bumbling at times...

But GET THIS! He's also got some really good athletic abilities and can make some really impresive moves! *LOL* And his Watson is a robot! Like I said. Well I'm checking it out again, if I get up on time.

~*~*~

One awesome Sherlockian cartoon is a Japanese production called "Sherlock Hound." I recently picked up a tape of episodes from the library. The design again is slightly weird on Sherlock, yet somehow dashing. Watson is a Scottie. *^_^* The plots are fairly simple, but it's entertaining stuff... Plus Hamilton Camp does a lot of voices..

Mr. Camp was the voice of Gizmoduck/Fenton Crackshell, one of my fave Ducktales chars!

Catchya later, all!

SHERLOCK HOUND!!! :)

by The Mouse Queen

I wondered if you'd seen that one. I haven't seen
the English dubbed version, but I have one hiding
somewhere in French. It came from a friend of mine in Canada years ago when I was into anime.
If I'm not mistaken, I may also have a little comic booklet of it somewhere in Japanese.

Even though I liked the characters, though,
Sherl seemed kinda poker-faced, unlike Basil,
who runs the gamut of emotions from A to Z.
But I still have fond memories of the other
version...

I'll check out that cartoon tomorrow, if I can.
Thanks! :)

"They Might Be Giants"---

by The Mouse Queen

THAT was the film with the late, great George C.
Scott that I was trying to think of. The synopsis
in my Movies Unlimited catalog is as follows: "Delightful romp stars George C. Scott as a wealthy New York judge who's convinced he's Sherlock Holmes, and Joanne Woodward as his psychiatrist, Dr. Mildred Watson [!]. Together
the duo set out on the trail of arch-fiend Moriarty and to make the world safe for eccentricity."

I haven't seen that film in years, but I've got to see it again---it sounds like a fun movie.
(a FEMALE Dr. Watson---I like the premise, don't
you?)

If you get Movies Unlimited at www.movies unlimited.com, they've got all sorts of Sherlock Holmes films, even silent versions.

BTW, I can't open up the program of those Holmes
Sounds. I'll keep trying, though...

Sherlockian Movies!

by Stony

(I can't open them either, hopefully it's only temporary!)

I keep running into the NAME of that movie - They Might Be Giants - cuz it's also the name of the band that made "Particle Man" and "Istanbul."

Particle man, particle man,
doin' the things a particle can
What's he like, it's not important
particle man
Is he a dot, or is he a speck?
When he's underwater does he get wet?
Or does the water get him instead?
Nobody knows, particle man....

Duh... I'm back! WISH I COULD FIND THAT MOVIE!! I might just end up having to buy it tho..

Have you ever heard of a movie about Sherlock Holmes in the present in America with (I think) another female Watson (could be a female Lestrade i just don't remember), and Holmes is kind of out of his league cuz he's not used to the time he's in, and he tries to drive a car among other things..

It wasn't They Might Be Giants tho. The title was something different. I saw it on PAX once, the second half of it, and never saw it again!
But I was ROFL! "Get 'em Holmes, get 'em! Oh come on!" What a fun movie.

There's also "The Seven Percent Solution," which is an AWESOME movie, even if it does make Holmes out to be some sort of whacked-out druggie. I really felt sorry for him here, but I liked it cuz I WANT to feel sorry for him... And Alan Arkin is in it, playing Freud. The guy who plays Holmes was PERFECT, especially that Rathbonian mouth...

Yet another one, the name of which I can't remember, I think is based on a short story I once read... It's based on the premise that Sherlock Holmes didn't really exist, that Watson is the REAL brains behind the duo, and Holmes is just an actor pretending to be smart. It was so-so. Hey for a Holmes fix I'll watch anything.

I also changed the color of the table format.
I love blue and gold! I hope you can read the
intro ok---it seemed white was the best color to
go with, though light blue might not be bad either.

BTW, I'll try and find that singer mouse pic.
I do have a couple samples, but not on computer.

..Leaning over to wink at you, wide awake as you please! That'd be a nice thing for me to wake up, to as well!

Glad you like it, I like the other pic I used too, but didn't you find it nearly impossible to read over? I sure did. This one's a *little* bit easier on the eyes, I think. :)

But you look at that picture, and there IS a rather mischievous gleam in his eye... :)

Yes, it is easier to read over. I LOVED the background with the tape cover, but it was hard to read. I need to start playing with my forum, too. I'd like to find a way to put music on it.

Hot stuff, comin' through!

Hey if you're gonna put music on yours, be sure to make it optional, like put a link on it like I did. Some ppl like music, others don't. And of course there's the issue of where to find some relevant music!

The only possibility I can think of is if there were a MIDI for the Sherlock holmes series. That would be really cool to put on mine!!

George C. Scott, we'll miss you!!! :-(

by Ethel the Mouse Queen

I'm trying to remember this comedy film where George played some eccentric (or crazy) guy who thought he was Sherlock Holmes, and makes this woman his partner (I think her name was Watson in
the film or something). I loved George (especially in PATTON), and I'll miss him bad!
