I recently requested a bankers draft from the Halifax Building Society in Muswell Hill. On the appointed day I went to pick up the draft, only to be told it wasn't ready and no record of any request for one could be found. I was not amused and asked the staff member to check the records of a week ago, for that was the date I had placed the request. He apologized and said he hadn't the faintest idea where to look! I questioned another member of staff and was told that every member of the Muswell Hill branch was off sick and staff had been drafted in from surrounding branches at short notice to cover. I eventually obtained a draft after 45 minutes.
I find it hard to believe that every member of staff had a legitimate illness. Would some member of the Halifax care to comment?
