Cowboy Clampers in Athenaeum Place

by

The Ace Car Wash which operates its wheel clamping business in Athenaeum Place also cause a lot of trouble for the residents of Athenaeum Place and the adjoining Princes Avenue. They are uncouth, rude and threaten violence on a regular basis to anyone who cannot understand how they have been wheel clamped when the clampers stand waiting and watching and say nothing to the motorists about Athenaeum Place being a private area (the notice stating this is very unobtrusive!). One of many incidents I witnessed was of a heavily pregnant woman with two small children andhad been shopping at Sainsburys, who was caught with a wheel clamp, one of the yobs was threateneing her and swearing at her, causing her two small children to cry in fright.

they also harass the residents playing loud music at a volume which really belongs in a fairground and local residents complain constantly. They even, out of spite on seveal occassions, have locked up their garage with the music left on very loud throughout the night to punish their neighbours for daring to complain. There is an old people's home abutting their premises, and this causes a nuisance to the residents. Myself and other neighbours have frequently called the Environmental Health, who have, after several talks with the yobs, now issued a Noise Abatement Notice, whilst this stops their all-night mayhem, it has done nothing to curb the noise nuisance they present during the day.

There is some query raised as to whether or not they have a legal right to clamp along this particular road. The council have also discovered that they do not, in fact, have planning permission to operate their business.

Perhaps other "concerned residents" can pursue the council with regard to this absent planning permission, and hopefully evict them.

Hoping for action

A Very concerned and harassed resident
