  • Rollerskating in the 60's

I am trying to gather information, archive material, memories etc on roller skating at Ally Pally in the mid 60's through to the early 70's, I myself belonged to the rollerskating club which met on Wednesday evening and Saturday mornings. we wore red leotards with a large white V down the front and white tights and white boot skates with orange nylon wheels, do you remember this?. I was 6 when I started so some of my memories are a bit hazy, but i remember the old rink was burnt down and replaced with a spanking new wooden one in about 1969, alot of the music seemed to be reggae, Israelites, Band of Gold , Young Gifted and Black, Johnny Reggae, etc we had general dancing with pop music, then specific waltz's ? then special interludes for mens speedskating (which was always quite hairy and usually ended up with casualties all over the floor!) and women's speedskating (less hairy), there were alot of skinheads and suedeheads who came on saturday daytime and and quite alot of fights, at the end of the day boys would sit on their skates androll down the hill to the bus stop, does anyone remember any of these things, did anyone belong to the club? does anyone know anyone who did?, I am trying to gather material for a film i am developing if you have any info please contact me: Gabrielle Seymour: gseymour05@yahoo.co.uk
