Hate that little pop up advertisement they have when you come here now. Grrr.
Anyway, I'm finally getting my roots taken care of. About two inches worth I think. In the bathroom, with a bright light directly overhead, they are obvious, but Kerry says under normal lighting they don't show much. Well, I am mostly grey and white now, so when I want to I can go natural. But I'm not ready to give up being a redhead yet! I love the deep auburn the henna turns my hair.
Last time I was sooo picky and nervous. Putting henna over a commercial dye, eeek! This time it was take the package out of the freezer, dump it in a bowl and pour lemon juice on it (Kerry bought organic!) I let it meditate overnight, then put some ground clove in it right before we put it on. Mostly just to make it smell better. Didn't work well, the powder clumped and didn't mix, so next time I will add it to the dry. I've read clove changes the color and I've read it doesn't change the color. I don't care either way, so long as it isn't orange, and I don't think it can be. The henna turned out nice and smooth this time, not lumpy. I just put it in a plastic storage after it was mixed, then today we just clipped off the corner of the plastic bag and used it as an applicator. Worked great. Kerry is really getting the hang of this! Smells very green, but so much better than those chemicals. Our eyes used to water so badly in that tiny bathroom, bleah! Also, I figure we miss any spots, no problem with touch ups.
Opps, dinner call. I'll be back....
OK, that was nice. Plus we watched Lilo and Stitch again. Wish I had started counting how many times we've watched it since I got it for Christmas.
So, I'm sitting here, with little green dusties falling every where. Fox suggested putting henna in my conditioner, which I was going to ask about and then forgot...smart lady, that Fox! The cloves overpower the henna smell. Some nut meg and allspice and I would smell like a pumpkin pie. I wonder if pumkin would be good for your hair? Obessesed? Who me???
After my hair oxidized, the ends were almost the same as the top. Really amazing change there, as my ends, which still had a lot of natural red in them, would naturally be darker than my over covered gray. It's really evened out the color nicely. Seems like it went on really fast too, but maybe that is because I'm not having to keep perfectly still and smell those nasty chemicals. There was a little left over, put it in the freezer. I think I will it to "flavor" my conditoner.
I need to find a different conditoner. I like the smell of the stuff, but it actually strips some of the oil out more than my shampoo does. So back to the drawing board to find a cheap conditoner I like. I may just head for the library and use some recipies there. A lot of the fun for me is the smell, I think I will just have to find another essential oils outlet (the Wicca store really didn't have much in oils. Nice supply of dry goods, got some chunks of Dragon's Blood. I plan on grinding it up and making my own oil.) Some people have mentioned a strong henna smell that never goes away. The smell lasts for about a week on me, then only when I get my hair wet. But it doesn't bother me. I just put something in my hair that smells better. I love fooling around with oils, makes me feel like an alchemists. Just give me a cauldron, dark blue robes with stars and ancient symbols, a tall pointy hat, a long white beard...no skip the beard. I wore one once for a photo shoot and boy, was that uncomforable. Oh, and a raven to sit on my shoulder.
Well, a couple of hours, I guess I will go rinse this out so I don't have to go to bed with wet hair. The bedroom isn't heated!
Well, the internet ate my second part of the story. I'm too tired to repeat it tonight, so maybe I will rewrite it then.
