Well Mike in about 4 days and 7hours Aaron and my self are headed to Nebraska to do some grouse hunting, way out in the sticks the way they tell me,Ive made up my mind to take my pup and let her "RIP". Ive been putting out alot of birds for her the last 3 weeks, we shot overher and she could care less so will she pointed a pigien we flushed the bird and shot it for her and Im telling you that put her into a whole nother playing field, she hunts evan harder and faster than she did before.Aaron has Bell the female her got from you almost finished, and this will be he first wild bird venture as well.Hopefully I will get some great pics of the two and will shoot them over to you. We'll be thinking of you, HA HA It should be a GREAT time for us and the pups. Take it easy Justin
Dont take RIP the wrong way I wrote it and after I posted it I did!! Rip as in rip threw the country side and run as much as she can and have a great time being a pup!!
Are you going with a guide? Please respond back after your trip and let us know how it was. I have never been grouse hunting and would love to go! Good Luck and be safe
I knew what you ment Justin. I am anxious to hear the report back from your cornhusker hunt. I just realized that Aaron named his female Bell as I did with her litttermate sister, Belle. You guys have a blast for me and please do think of me everytime one of those dogs lock up tight on a bird !!!
Well we had a great time, We got the chance to see a few birds eat alot of steaks and bring home alot of memorys. The pup had the time of her life, she didn't get to point any birds but that was expected. I takes an Awsome dog that has feild time and knows how to handle those birds. We hunted on a national refuge that was apsolutly awsome . I think every upland hunter should go on a hunt like this, It was a whole new experiance. No we didn't go with a guide, and yes Aarons male {mac the Big D pup he got from you} pointed every bird we shot Bell got in on one as well and that made Aarons trip. But there is one thing I can say for sure people You will eather love this hunt or hate it.{I LOVED IT!!} If you like pretty county and like to watch your dogs hunt, dont mind to walk alot, dont care if you slay a bunch of birds just be ther doing what you are doing and hunting a bird that is aloosive as a grouse, This is it.
Justin....Sounds like the old hand found the birds and the young dogs took the back seat. That's pretty typical. There is no replacing experience. THe older dogs know where to look and how to find birds....Young dogs have to work harder at it and it does come as easy for them, however....thats how they learn and then one day, the tables will turn.....
