One Awesome Week-End !!!

My wife has been working covertly on “something” for quite awhile now. I would come in from the kennel and she would be trying to bail out of some web site and in desperation she would just jump up and say “don’t look!” I was pretty clueless as to what she was up to but it was obvious, even to me, that she was doing something under the radar. I said I don’t care what you’re doing but I DON’T want to go to Branson! Let me jump to a different subject now…..

Some of you, such as Hoyt, know that I am a musician. I play the drums and have for many years. I mostly play in our Church praise and worship band but I’ve played with a few other bands along the way. Just a Rock Star wannabe I guess. Anyway….I have always wanted to learn how to play the bass so this past February, I bought a used guitar and amp from a co-worker. I took a couple of lessons but I really just wanted to “play”. I put one of my CD’s on and oddly enough the guitar was in tune with the CD. Of course not knowing the notes it didn’t sound very good, so I recruited the help of the real musicians of the family, my daughter’s Michaela and Ashlee. They helped me find the chords and then I went to work on my own. The CD I was playing along with was with the band, Big Head Todd and the Monsters. After a couple of weeks, I was able to play along with 3 songs from the CD. You could only imagine how happy I was to actually make sounds that were melodic and followed along with the music from the CD. Now the rest of the story…..

This past Thursday, Wendy sent us off on an extended week-end outing. We flew out of Ponca to Denver. We just took it easy Thursday night and Friday but Saturday she wanted to go up into the “Mountains”. We went to an area where dinosaurs were very prevalent at one time. We then went to Red Rocks Amphitheater. This is a natural amphitheater in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies. There is a café at the base of the amphitheater, where we ate supper Saturday night. After supper she then presented me with tickets to a Big Head Todd and the Monsters Concert at Red Rocks. There is no way I can convey how cool this whole event was. The fact that my wife thought enough to surprise me the way she did and then to sit and hear a band that I REALLY like in the most acoustically perfect setting with the backdrop of the lights of Denver was very overwhelming. The concert itself was absolutely unbelievable. The band played around 20 songs and preformed 2 ½ hours without a break. They were AWESOME and so was my week-end with you Wendy…Thank You again….I Love Ya
