LOL The 90s did not kill the guitar, but THAT band nearly killed music. We have tons of great guitarists today from bands like Dragon Force who blaze faster and tighter than the best speed metal bands to artists like Buckethead. And you can actually make out the individual notes instead of a cacaphony of noise.
From a personal standpoint bouncing many acts from Pantera to Cannibal Corpse and even White Lion

and doing sound board many acts from the early 90s and late 80s were simply 3 chords with good sound mixers. Most were flat horrid live using stage shows instead of talent. Shoot most of the best guitarists of the days you miss Ed were never given credit outside the critics. Guys like McAlpine, Vandenburg and others were pushed aside for the flavor of the week acts. The same with bassists and drummers can be said, vocalists well hair metal took care of that one.
