Response to Whatever floats your boat! A new tack from Richard Mille: RM014 Perini Navi

emotions of Purists. Personally, I think the watch is a good departure line for Richard Mille. As I mentioned in my introduction, racing yachts are just as high tech as F1 cars, only with bigger budgets! If you simply limit yourself to one line, you are limiting yourself to what you can learn, evolve (and yes, sell). The RM014 might be a dud (sales wise), might be a runaway success (as with the RM001/RM002). This piece, more than any other 'linked' watch out takes its design cues from the deck of a racing yacht. Look at the pictures - racing yachts are busy: pullies, winches, sails - there is a lot going on. That is not to say you should like it - if that does not 'float your boat', then no, this will not appeal to you. Fair enough. But for what it was designed to do, I think it is spectacular and my congratulations to Richard Mille.

I would also add that the glamour shots from RM are not that good - they never really portray the watches as they are (as most of us know). I think in the flesh, this might just jump out at you. I would also add that there is no depth rating for this watch yet. These are very preliminary photos (released by special permission) and about 10 days ago, the watch had completely different hour and minute hands on it (as Felipe indicated). Richard Mille is constantly looking for improvement and progression. He just happens to be driven that way

Thanks again for all your comments and interest. Keep them coming!
