If you had the older style strap (custom fit), then it is true that you will need to buy a new strap to use with the new deployment. If you had the tang then I think you're fine.
I can't confirm this, since I have a sample of 2 straps to go with but maybe Andrew can confirm.
I had the "custom" fit strap on the original deployment and much prefer the new spring loaded version.
So the straps that I've seen are :
Black "rubberized" leather
Black Kevlar
Silver/grey satin
Brown & Black Croc
Brown carf with white deviation stiching (apparently a prototype)
I know that some of the other forum members have the yellow straps etc...
