I just saw online that Antiquorum is selling in its September auction the white gold RM005 with number 88. Should be interesting to see how strong the demand for RM is in Asia.

Auctions are, by definition, a spot price and not really reflective

of the state of demand for a particular watch or version. It will reflect who is in the room (either in person or by phone) and who wishes to bid. Nothing more. Over time, with auctions around the world, and a collection of data points on the matter, you can build an average price point and a more representative state of demand.

However, the number sure is a special one!

I understand what you mean by "spot price" - I guess any single sale would not be reflective of the overall market demand for a particular brand or model. However, an auction is a well publicized sale and today's auctions allow for collectors from all over the world to bid live over the internet - regardless where the auction takes place or where the bidder is located - which makes "who is in the room" a pretty big audience. Therefore, I do not believe that auction results can be dismissed as not reflective of the market's demand for the brand or model. I for one hope that the RM does very well at auction - I guess I want to have the security of knowing that should I one day decide to sell my RM there will be a market for it. I believe that the simple fact that an auction house puts an RM in its auction indicates that at least they believe there is a market for the brand. I guess we will have to wait and see...

Do you think a watch's serial number could effect its value? For example - buying the No. 1 in a limited series?

I sold that watch on thePurists sales corner...

almost a year ago. Seems like the owner decided to put it up for sale. Its a nice piece with a special number. I don't think however, the pricing will be too out of line with a normal RM005.

Now THAT is interesting!!!

Did your watch have the red jewels when you originally bought it? Given the timing of your purchase, and the fact that the clear ones were apparently introduced with the FM model, I presume it must have.

Looking at the Antiquorum pictures (see below), the watch now clearly has the clear jewels (pun intended)! Should we take this to mean that if an older RM 005 watch is sent in for service, RM will replace the jewels with clear ones, either as part of the standard work or perhaps upon request?
