not exactly cold, but maybe a bit chilly. The RM-014, though, is a masterpiece. Beautiful use of design cues and references to shipboard symbology.

Thanks Chris. While I do find just about every RM watch desirable (I am a fan!), I have

to say that I agree with you over the RM014. It is my favourite RM. Did you see the report on the Perini Navi event? Lots more RM014 pics in the links to this one:

Thanks again.

One of the reasons I'm so much in favor of the nautical theme of this watch is that...

the first really accurate watches in history were necessitated by the realities of ocean-going navigation, as we all know. It's a great tie-in with the beautiful yachts the RM014 emulates, imho.

Perhaps what ties it in better than any other watch out there is that

October 5 2006, 5:53 PM

the Perini Navi yachts themselves are designed for ocean travel. Super long distance yachts that are designed to cross oceans. It is expected, once they are happy with the way the Maltese Falcon is performing (it is still undergoing trials and having final fittings to the hull), to make a number of 'record breaking' sails across various oceans. Fitting that a RM014 will hopefully be on the owners wrist!

Not only will there be new Richard Mille watches in the 'Seven Seas Racing Class' of watches, but Perini Navi themselves are working on a number of new yachts expected to race at 20 knots plus speeds across oceans. Fantastic!

Check out the Perini Navi website to learn more on the super yachts in production:

Thanks Chris.

PS. Do you think John Harrison would have approved of the RM014, carbon fibre, titanium parts, and all? I rather think he would have appreciated the micro-engineering of it all - and the accuracy. After all, it was his quest.

I think Harrison would have loved the whole idea of these watches, rugged and built for...

accuracy as they are. I'm thinking he would have admired the tourbillon escapement for its contribution to positional accuracy.

That's interesting...

Personally, I actually find the 014 the least appealing RM to my taste. But I would love to have an 009 or a 012!!!

Choosing the easily available ones! Admittedly both the

RM009 and RM012 are brilliant and experimental pieces - groundbreaking. If we all liked the same, it would be a dull world. The experimental pieces are necessary for the RM line as they lead design and thought. The same applies to the RM014 for the 'Seven Seas Racing Class' - it is the lead watch that will help develop the rest of the line.

I would still take a RM014 over others - but that is my preference. Each to his/her own!

Thanks Alberto and welcome!
