How to disable distance to target in pursuit game?

I like the Pursuit games the most. But I'd like to be able to let the car go far, far away and then start pursuing it. Or to lose it and catch up with it later on. I tried several things to disable the option that tells the game when the mission has failed. But I don't know how to get it done. Any help would be very appreciated!
