Looking for v6 to v8 swap ideas/suggestions/questions

by

I have access to a 2001 v6 automatic that is paid for.

My plan was to sell everything except for the frame and body and basically start from scratch building this thing the way I like.

So I come here looking to get ideas/suggestions/questions.

1. Has anyone done this?
2. Would anyone suggest doing this?

For example I know it will require replacing the wiring Harness, ECU, transmission, rear end, suspension, etc. If you have any brands you recommend I would be interested in hearing about them.

My main questions is will it fit and how much problems do you for see runnign into. If it's only motor mounts that's fine, but if it's more than I would love to hear. So any and all feedback will be well worth it and much appreciated!!!!!

Feel free to reply here or send me an email. Hopefully replying here will provided valuable info for others.

Thanks

Alan

1991 2.3 swap to 302 ? what do I need?

by

I bought a clean 91 5 speed stang with a 2.3, and got a good deal. I bought it with the intention of making a hot rod. I need to find out everything that needs to be changed to swap to a 302.(not fuel injection.) will my tranny work? do I need a new clutch, driveshaft, rear end? so If someone could fill me in that would be great.

302 swap

by

hey whats up? i am doining the same swap and i am learning alittle more each day. i know that all you need is motor mounts, bellhousing, clutch/flywheel assembly, and a couple basic ods and ends....you can use your radiator until you get into the high performance mods. you can use the 4 bangers tranny also but you need to get a pilot bearing for a thunderbird turbo coupe because the shaft is not the same size as a 302. you should go ahead and re-run your fuel lines with sum steel braided hose and stuff like that. you will obviously need a header back exhaust for a 5.0 .thats really all i know as of right now. i havent completed my swap in my 89 hatch stang either so i am sure i will run into a couple more things before i am done.

what gear for my 97 cobra???

by

I have a mostly stock 97 cobra.I am getting ready to have my rearend rebuilt, and was wondering what to replace the stock 3.27 gear with.I already have a set of 3.73's to install, but have heard i should go with 4.10's.That sure does sound like a lot of gear to me.Please let me know what your experiences have been with gearing a 4.6 DOHC.

Re: what gear for my 97 cobra???

by stangman666

4.10's are best for naturally aspirated cars. 3.73's are best for forced induction. 4.10's are going in my car after I drove a '98 with them.

by Craigmed

What type of driving do you plan on doing? Highway or city or strip? If you do every day driving go with the 3.73!

2000 GT 4.6 swap to 351W

by

I have thought of supercharging my GT,but I decided to upgrade to 5.8. I am new at engine swaps and mods. I now it will fit with motor mounts. My question is what headers, rods, cams and other intake mods do i need to get more out of the engine I have (which is stock 351w). I am looking to get around 400-450 or a little more without supercharging or turbo. And no NOS.
Also my car's tranny is auto and I am asking which tranny would be good auto or manual. plan to put 3.73 gears for street and have 4.10 when I race it. Have gears already. 351w would snap my car in half with my stock tranny with 3.73 or 4.10 right. any info or book on swap would be greatful.

I almost went upgrade

by Raymond

I also thought of upgrading my eng. My 99GT has high mileage (100,000). If u go with a 5.0 motor, i think u lose your computer monitoring system and u have to upgrade other components. Myself ive decided to go with a new 4.6 motor with a supercharger. That way my on board computer will still read the new engine and keep monitoring the motor and its applicable systems. If u like major muscle , then go for the 5.0 motors. Im staying with the 4.6, light weight and can output tremendous amount of power.

question

by rick james

i recently put cat backs on my car and was wondering if removing my resignator would mess with my back pressure and effect the way my engine runs

Re: question

by stangman666

There are no resonators on Mustangs. There are catalytic converters, and if you remove them without doing the proper modifications then "yes" your car will not run right.

Also having a little idle issue. after highway runs 70 to 80mph sometimes engine wants to idle at 1500 to 2000 rpms. If I cut off the switch and restart it idles at 650rpm. Occurs days apart. Temp, oil, everything normal.

Got a 1994 Ford Mustang v6 3.8 liter, has a true dual flowmaster exhaust installed on the car, gas is pissing out of the left tailpipe, as well as spraying out of the last cylinder on the left side, thought it was a bad fuel injector, changed it still no good, hooked up a fuel gauge got -1.5 psi in the on position and when the car is turned on the guage reads 29 psi, ive never come across a problem like this, if anyone has any advice please post respone thankyou.
