PID Stall

by

Hi:

Thanks for having a forum on Control loops. Working at a small company it is hard to find others to bounce problems off of.

My problem is this:
I am using a PID loop (software) to control temperature. But once (and I have not been able to repeat the same behavior) I increased the temperature setpoint from a steady state value already attained. The loop reached the new setpoint and remained stable, I then decreased the setpoint again the setpoint was achieved and remained stable. I then increased the setpoint, at this point the reported temperature only increased a few degrees. It stalled at this temperature and never reached setpoint. Any ideas on what happened and how to prevent it. Thanks in advance

Rive
