I'm starting a team for the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search with a 100,000-dollar reward.
A.k.a gimps. The program uses only ideal cpu cycles and will not interfere with your other computing tasks.
It works like this
You email me to let me know you have joined and let me know what your computer ID will be (like a nick name ill let you pick unless some one beat you to it)
1. You sign up to be on team crash. (I’ll provide the password when you email me)
2. You down load the program. (Its around 700k big)
There is a version for almost every known platform
Mac
Windows 95&98

And older X86 machines
3. You down load a small packet of info form the server (usually around 20 bytes!!!)
4. You let the program do its stuff in the background and wait for it to crank out a new Mersenne prime.
Why do I need people to help?
Simple instead of a single shot in the dark for the big jackpot I'm trying to get lots of people to start shooting and well spread the wealth. Instead of safety in numbers well be doing strength in numbers.
There is a 100,000 reward that will be split evenly based on how many jobs each person has completed. You will receive no credit for unfinished work.
It takes about a 50 to 100 days on a AMD k6-300MHz to do one job. But it does go faster if you have a faster cpu and with all you new computer users who have 800 and 900 is should fly. The program is also works a lot faster with Pentium CPU’s than another so that’s an advantage
