SINGER-SONGWRITER and all-'round music icon Neil Diamond is thisclose to signing on for director-actor Dennis Dugan's "Saving Silverman." Diamond is expected to play himself in the film, perform a live concert and possibly write a song or two especially for the soundtrack. Director Dugan, who idolizes Diamond, met secretly with the singer for weeks, wooing the legend. Obviously, Dennis knows how to woo. (Dugan directed two Adam Sandler hits, "Big Daddy" and "Happy Gilmore.")
