I had marsupialization approx. 11 years ago. The GYN packed the gland with (I swear) with 12-14 inches of strip gauze. I had to remove the gauze MYSELF after about 5 days. God that was terrible!! I thought I would pass out. I still can't believe he could have packed that much into such a small area (a bit extreme I would think!!) The hole that remained was HUGE and UGLY!!! Not like that area of the body is cute or anything, but that gaping hole didn't make it any better.
Anyways....it fine now. The reason why I know for sure is that I have another cyst forming (isn't that nice??) and I really had to look to see which side I had my surgery on before....don't worry...it's not the one they fixed. Of course my Dr. is on holidays (figures...he was away for the birth of my son too), so I guess I'll be off to the Emerg. when my Hubby is off work.
Wish me luck, Dawn
p.s.
For any of you who are considering not having surgery, I want to share my experience with you. I had my first BA about 18 years ago. I had never heard of a BC or BA and thought that my DR. knew best. The infection was severe after 2 days. I couldn't walk or even move without extreme pain. My labia was swollen to twice it's normal size, the infection had traveled down the inside of my leg and half way up the cheek of my butt....it was BAD!! The Dr. froze the area and lance it and sent me home. Two days later it was back. The Dr. lance it again and sent me home. A few days later it was heeling nicely and then it happen....the same thing... but on the other side. Oh God it was like a waking nightmare. I had to go through it all over again....same treatment, but I did eventually get better....for awhile.
About seven years later, I was living in the city and the BA formed again. I was sent to a GYN and booked for surgery that same day (SURGERY?? that option was never even mentioned before). My GYN explained that without surgery that it would more than likely reoccur. The surgery was painful, but nothing like I'd already experienced...and it worked!!
I'm definitely not looking forward to doing this again, but I know how well the 1st surgery worked for me, so the end result is what I'm thinking of right now. Best of luck in whatever choices you make.
