Response to What EXACTLY happens during...

I've had 15 of the darn things now.

4 operations later... i can explain what happens.

you go under general anesthetic for the procedure. While under they will marsupulize the abcess - which is basically making an incision to allow the cyst to drain out. They will then, if the abcess is large, pack it with a "wick" which is a long piece of fabric, it ensures that the abcess does not reform.

You have to remove the wick the next day. DO THIS IN THE BATH, as it will allow it to come out with more ease.

Generally you are kept in for one night. You have to go to the loo (this IS painful), eat something, drink something, and be managing your pain in order to be discharged.

I hope this is helpful.

Like I say, im 4 ops later. Tomorrow will be 5th and they're going to try and remove the gland as well.
