Response to Mine recently abcessed

I can't really give you a lot of info but I actually just came back from Gyn's office this morning. I had a cyst filled with abcess over the weekend and called my Gyn first thing this morning to get rid of it. I was in so much pain from the abcess that I could barely sit or walk. I had never tried the warm towel compress before but I tried it all weekend because for some reason this time the pain was worse than any other time before. I guess it worked because when I got to the doctor and put my legs on the stirrups it just started draining on it's own without her having to cut me. That never happened before but I was glad I could bypass the incision. After it drained she inserted the word catheter. I'm supposed to have this thing inside me for 2-4 weeks to help with the drainage.

So I would suggest trying the warm towel. Run some hot/warm water on a towel and place it against the swollen area. I also let the towel soak in some salt water because I read that the salt would fight any further infection. One thing I wouldn't suggest is bursting it yourself. I asked my doctor about that because I was tempted to do it myself and she told me a horrible story about a woman who tried to burst it herself. I can't remember all the details of the story but trust me when I say it made me cringe and I never had another thought of draining it myself.

So now when I go back in a few weeks they will see how this thing inside me is doing and probably take it out. My Gyn also suggested doing the "M" operation (I can't pronounce it either) but it sounds effective and I'm all for it. It would be outpatient and all they would do is cut the area so that it is permanently open and would not be able to be blocked anymore. Good Luck!
