So, I guess it started back in Feb, 2008.. I had a really painful lump about the size of a grape. I called my family doctor and made an appointment 2 days later. By then, this lump was growing bigger and bigger by the minute (or so it felt)... my doctor poked at it and examined it and then finally decided to put me on antibiotics and send me home. She also told me to take tylenol for the pain... well...
3 days later, my abscess was as big as a golf ball and I literally cried every time i had to stand, walk or sit. I was living with my boyfriend at his parents house, and i really didn't want to have to explain the situation to them, so I told them I slipped on ice and hurt my back..
I guess it was about a week into it, my boyfriend made me go back to my doctor. She looked at it again and then sent me to a tiny hospital just outside of town. After a 4 hour wait, a female doctor came in and looked at it and said "ouch, that must hurt!" There was tears running down my face, not only from embarassment, but most of all, PAIN! I can't even begin to describe how much it hurt. That doctor then told me that I would be better off going to a bigger hospital with a gynocologist on site.
So off I went, to ANOTHER hospital.. I think I waited about an hour and then the gyno walked in the room. Boy was I ever glad to see her! She had a looked at it.. poked at it some more.. and told me exactly what her plan was. She said she's seen these many times before.. which was very reassuring..
They gave me a general anestetic to knock me out, while they sliced open the abscess and drained it. They finished it off by sewing the edges of the new opening open so that it wouldn't close over.
When i woke up, I was so relieved, I didn't feel any pain at all!!

I walked out of the hospital as though nothing happened.. they gave me pain killers, but I didn't even need them.
Ever since then, I haven't had a problem...
...with that gland...
11 MONTHS LATER...
I now have another abscess, but it's on the other side.. I called my doctor and she immediately booked me an appointment to have the same procedure done again, no questions asked.
There is one problem though.. I'm 5 months pregnant, so they might not give me a general anestetic this time.. I'm still waiting to get this darn thing drained and I'm in so much pain (again)
It's as big as a grape right now, but I've been lucky enough to spend the last 3 days on the couch, so it isn't as irritated as it was last time. I've also been sitting in warm salt water every 2 hours, which temporarily helps with the pain.
I will keep everyone posted on how my surgery goes!
