Soundblaster support with 6100 DOS card

How do you enable sounbblaster support in DOS & Windows? In Windows 98, I added new hardware and windows found the soundblaster board. However, when I try to boot into windows with it enabled, it locks up during boot. Also, how do you enable the board in DOS when running DOS games?
