Charles, thanks for you help, but unfortunately I am still out of luck. I tried each of the 3 options individually and also with different combinations, but I was unable to make the networking work on my mac7300/200 with OS9.1 and PC card 166MHz. However the networking is ok when the OS is OS 8.1. - this is on the same machine same setup and I did not do anything special to make it work.
