This web forum is a site for the now defunct Apple MacDOScard.
For three years, this existed as the MacDOScard mailing list but as more firewalls showed up and disallowed email into them - I feel that a web-based forum would be more appropriate. Hence the creation of this web site.
Very soon, the MacDOScard mailing list will cease the exist. Current deadline for off-line is end September 1999.
OrangePC 660 softwareby (no login)Hey all, I just got my hands on an OrangePC 660, and have been trying to locate the software required to run it. I have win98, but I need the other stuff. The response I've been getting all refers me to OrangeMicro's site, but all I can find there is updates. Any help would be appreciated. TIA Mikeal |
Re: OrangePC 660 softwareby Al (no login)Download what Orange Micro calls the upgrade for the 400, 500, 600 & fx series cards which is under the 3.4.2 upgrade ( which says you need v 3.3.1 installed ) . It is called the PCI Web Installer and is approx 10MB. Then download the manual for the 500/600 series cards which is right underneath the Web Installer download. The manual gives instructions in one of the appendixes on how to do a full install of the software both on the Mac side ( which by the way is the v 3.4.2 application installed by the web installer ) and on the Windows side. |
Orange pC SOFTWAREby (no login)Did you ever have any luck getting the software for the Orange PC card? I'm getting one on the cheap and I am also looking for the software... RSVP |
Radius DOM in a Beige G3 MT?by (no login)I have a Beige G3 MiniTower 266/20G/256MB with an open PCI slot. However, when I went to move my Radius 133 DOM from my PowerMac 6500 I noticed that there does not appear to be anywhere to plug in the extra little cable and board that is attached to the PCI card. Any help here? Thanks, joseph |
Re:Radius DOM in a Beige G3 MT?by (no login)This is not so much of an answer to you question, but more in line of extra information. The Radius card can generally be connected to a Mac in two ways. The first which you are familiar is the cable with the board (called the "Internal PC Audio/Video Assembly"). As you know for the 6500 (which I am still using) you plug thins in to the card and a port on the MoBo near the battery (very convenient) and you are done. On other Mac models like the 8500 and 9500 towers (the instruction book for the card is pre G3), you plug in the card, then plug in small cable from the card to the CD Rom (Technical term "CD Audio Cables") for sound. Then you close up the case and add a loopback cable for the monitor. Just to be on the same page, the loopback cable has three plugs 1) goes to the Mac monitor out port, 2) goes to the VGA out port of the DOM card and 3)is where the monitor plugs into for the video. Since, I am not familiar with the layout of the G3 MT, if you can't find the port for the internal cable you most likely have to go the the second route to install the card. I hope this helps' Greg |

Detente 1.6.4by (no login)I recently revived my old PM 7200 with a Reply/Radius card, but I'm having trouble finding the software. I tried ftp.radius.com, but that didn't work. I seem to recall the version was 1.6.4, but not even sure about that it's been so long. Also anyone here using the Connectix Double Talk software on the Mac side to connect to a PC network? Hi Henry, you still around? Have not been on this list for a year or so. Thanks! |
Re: Detente 1.6.4by Henry (no login)Yep, I'm still around. Just haven't seen anything that I felt I could contribute to... I can't remeber what version the Detente software is, but it is NOT 1.6.4. I don't think that the Radius FTP site has been working for a very long time, but it should still be possible to find the download somewhere. I may have it myself if you can't find it anywhere else. It has been a long time since I bothered with it because I was very unhappy with it, so I quit using it, but there was a Reply version of the software and a Radius version of the software. I tried them both, and while the Radius version was fairly up to date, it was still very different and I don't think I could get everything working with newer Mac OSes. Anyway, like I said, it has been a long time, so I really don't remember very well. Good luck finding it, though... Henry |
Re: Re: Detente 1.6.4by Al (no login)Henry, If I recall correctly there was a version of the Detente/DOS on Mac software for the Reply/Radius 7" Card which was version 1.6.1AX. ( which apparently was a modified version of the Apple PC Setup 1.6.1 modified for the Radius/Reply version of the card ) Since I never had a Radius/Reply 7" Card I don't have a copy of this software. With respect to the 12" Reply DOS on Mac and the sucessor Radius Detente Card ( which are identical ) Reply called their Version of the software ( which I recall only supported one PC Comm port ) DOS on Mac. When Radius bought out Reply they released an upgraded version of the software which they called Detente which supported both Comm 1 and Comm 2 as does PC Setup for the Apple Cards. I have a Reply/Radius 12" card and have both the older Reply version of the software as well as the last and only release of the Detente version of the software including their version of the Win95 boot disk which also apparently worked with the Apple Cards as well if I remember correctly several posts mentioning this. Having never installed or run the Detente Card after reading your posts as to the performance of the software ( I only got the card because It had a socket 7 CPU and could be upgraded to a 200Mhz MMX CPU ) and the necessity of adding a capacitor to the Cards power supply if it was upgraded with the 200Mhz CPU I can't comment on it's performance. |
Re: Re: Re: Detente 1.6.4by (no login)Okay, mine is the 12" card and has a 200 MMX processor on it. Never did the capacitor upgrade, but mine does work okay, just have to hold the power key down until it catches. I think I still have the software on disks, but I'm sure it was an older version. Guess I can use it if I cannot locate the updated version, unless either one of you know of a better software for that card. Been a while since I messed with it... |
DOS on Macby Henry (no login)Yeah, I never was too crazy about popping the power supply over and over again until it started up, so I think that adding the capacitor is a pretty good idea. I'm not sure if the newer software is any better, but if you can't find anything, maybe Al or I can dig you up a copy... Good luck, Henry |
Re: DOS on Macby (no login)I'll try the Radius software I have on floppies first and I'll let you know how it works out. Do one of you have the details on how to add that cap to the PS? Seems like I had it, but it's been a long time ago. Also does anyone know of a good deal on a HD for the 7200. The one I have in there now is a 2 Gb unit, but it's not doing very well. I'd like to find something bigger and better if I could... |
Capacitor infoby Henry (no login)Here is the start of the thread: http://www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=30406&messageid=985900196 and here is the specifics on the capacitor: http://www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=30406&messageid=985905841 Good luck, Henry |
Re: Capacitor infoby Doug (no login)Thanks much Henry, I printed out the info this time so I'll have it when I actually get around to making the mod to my system. I always have good intentions on doing these things but somehow they never get done 8^) |
Re: DOS on Macby Doug (no login)Well, I gave it a shot, but didn't get too far. Seems it wants to find Open Transport 1.1 or better installed and with me using OS 8.5, I have OT 2.0! Is there a work around for this problem short of going back to OT 1.1? |
Re: Re: DOS on Macby Al (no login)Which version of the DOS on Mac software are you running ?. I have the last release of the Radius software I downloaded just before they shut down the Radius Vintage Website which is Detente 1.2. I don't know if it's compatible with OS 8.5. Possibly Henry knows as he's tried it and did mention he had problems with the DOS on Mac card running with the later OS's. |
Re:Re:Re: DOS on Macby (no login)I am suspecting that you have the same software for the Radius cards as I have, but mine is called "Dos on Mac/AX Version 1.2." This version contains the PCSetup 1.6.1ax control panel, which I think was the last (also suggested earlier in the thread). This is the original disk which came with my card, but I could swear that I downloaded something else from the Radius Vintage site, since that was over five years ago I can't really remember...most likely a Win95 boot image. But, I digress. If anyone wants a copy of this disk I'll be happy to make an image and send it, just email me. Actually, I also have the dark side disk (called version 1.1), but I have just used the PCSetup 1.6.4 version instead for the PC software. Why? I think it added some extra doodads and updates. |
Re:Re:Re:Re: Dos on Macby Al (no login)Greg, Your software is for the Radius/Reply 7" PCI Dos on Mac Card. This card had a provision for connecting the video out from the card to the Mac video internally via a cable and small circuit board in some models of macs. In other models you would need the external video cable which would connect the cards external video output to the macs video output with the monitor connecting to the monitor output on the cable. My card is the Radius 12"MX Dos on Mac card later renamed the Detente 12MX card ( though I've never actually seen one labeled with the Detente name- probably Radius still had a stock of the Dos on Mac labeled cards and discontinued them before actually producing any labeled Detente ) The 12" Dos on Mac/Detente 12MX card used a totally different software package than the 7" card which used the 1.6.1AX software. Radius released the last version of the software for the 12" card under the Detente name just before discontinuing production of the cards. It is Detente ver 1.2 and consists of a Mac Application/extensions install disk, two PC install disks and a Win 95 boot disk. |
Re:Re:Re:Re:Re; Dos on Macby (no login)Cool, actually that finally makes some sense to me. I was always wondering why Radius had both a 7" and a 12" version of their software on their ftp site. Which was different from Apple's (or appears so) software. Thanks for clearing that up. -Greg |
pc card softwareby (no login)Greg have been searching for this software, if it you could email it this would be a godsend. my email is komputrn@acr.net.au Thanx Simon |
Re: Re: Re: DOS on Macby Doug (no login)Al, I only have the 5 floppies which came with the card. The Dos on Mac version is 1.1.2. If you can send me images of the later disks or let me know where I can download them it would be appreciated. |
Re: Re: Re: DOS on Macby (no login)Also Al, I did have the Detente software at one time using it on this very same computer with the OS 8.5. But I deleted it when I ran the Yellow Dog Linux for awhile. Now I'm back to the Mac OS and trying to get things back like they were before. I thought I had the software backed up, but it doesn't work because it wasn't installed I guess. |
pc setup softwareby (no login)Doug I believe that I have the same 12" PC Card, but nowhere can I find any drivers, even old ones. Would it be possible to email me a set of your drivers, old or otherwise. Thanks heaps Simon |
Detenteby Henry (no login)Al, That all sounds just about right to me. I never fooled with the Radius AX card, but I did download the software just to see if it was good for anything else, which it wasn't. And, as you said, it was just PCSetup 1.6.1 patched for Reply/Radius... Henry |
Has anyone successfully performed an OrangePC AMD upgrade?by (no login)Has anyone upgraded their Orange Micro 620 card from a 200MHz processor to a 400MHz AMD (as the company ays is possible)? I would appreciate any feedback! |
it's not that hardby (no login)some others may be able to describe it better, but it's not that hard to do. the only problem you may have, is if you try to run win 95 after you have the amd installed. win 98 works just fine, but win95 won't boot. there is a patch that you can get, where i don't know. ask around, someone will be able to tell you. the easiest thing to do, is get win98, install it with the old processor still in, then change to the new amd. my 2 cents worth... |
psby mnkybtt (no login)search this forum, about 2 months back, look for "mnkybtt" in the messages. i had the exact same problem, and the guys walked me through it. |

Not successful with AMD Upgradeby VanPhu (no login)Hello, I have tried to upgrade my OrangeMicro 626 with an AMD k6-2 450 (2.4V core) without any success. Tried any CPU/Bus ratio dip setting (10,11,12) as indicated in the manual and FAQ of the OrangeMicro Web site. By the way they don't indicate the same setting for the K6-2 400Mhz. I have tried first by setting the Bus clock at 83 MHZ, PCI clock at 32 and CPU/Bus ratio at 5.5x to get 450 MHz, but I got the message that the card is not responding. I lowered the CPU/Bus ratio at 5x, nothing. Even if I put the Bus clock at 66MHZ and the CPU clock at half speed, I still got nothing at the different CPU/Bus ratio. I put back the old Windchip CPU back.IF anyone had anything success, please let me know. Thank. |
Newbi wif a PC compat 166?by Bob Gelfling (no login)Hello, I have just got a 2nd hand 12" PC Compatiblity card from eBay. Interestingly it was listed as a ATI Mach64. Anyways, I have two questions: Where can I get a cable/adaptor to plug into the monitor port on the PC-Card? How do I tell which model I have? Is it a 4400/7220 card or what? Any help would be grately apreciated by a newbi Bob Gelfling |
apple cardby (no login)Is it an apple branded card ? If so, is it using an intel CPU or a cyrix ? Mad Dog |
apple cardby Bob Gelfling (no login)Hi, Yes, it is apple branded. I has a penitum. It is 12" long. It has a part number: 820-0729-B. I was thinking, all I need to make a cable (in theory anyway), are the pin outs from the 26pin connector. Unless, ofcourse, the cable has logic on board. Anyway thanks, Ben |

OrangePC 290 card questionsby (no login)I have recently gotten an OrangePC 290 card (at least it matches the picture from the orangemicro site) and have a couple of questions: Initialy I was unable to get the card to be recognized but after reading the jumper settings mentioned on Andrew's web site (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/mcpheej/orangepc.html) and after checking and adjusting a few jumpers I was able to get the card to be recognized by the apple system profiler. However, this was after starting and restarting the computer (7100/80) a couple of times and getting a car crashing sound. I'm not sure what that sound means as the computer eventually started ok. Now for the next questions: The software on the orangemicro site is stated in the archive as an update for the 200 series but no full software is listed on the site. Anyone know where I can download that? I have read a couple of articles on this site and Andrew's that the manual is not available for this model anymore. But, is there parts of other manuals that are still available that are useable (error codes, etc...)? The orangemicro site also says that the 290 can accept parallel and serial connections. But, where? All I can find is the slot for the PCMCIA card. Thanks for any and all of the help I can get, Paul |
Re: OrangePC 290 card questionsby Al (no login)Paul, The 200 series softawre on the Orange Micro website listed as an upgrade is actually the upgraded program itself rather than an update disk. The software you need to run the card is the program and a boot disk which you need to boot the card and load the CD Rom driver so you can install Win 95. There are two boot disks ( which one you use depends on the date of issuance of the Win 95 install disk - there were several versions of Win 95: a 95a, 95b and a 95c). You will need to create a floppy from the disk image of the boot disk you download and load the floppy when you boot the card. There were actually 3 versions of the 200 series cards made by Orange Micro. The 210, the 250 and the 290. The serial of the card should begin with the model . The 210 card had the connectors for the serial/parallel cable which uses the same 40 pin connector as a PC Hard drive. The 250 card only had the PCMCIA slot wuth no parallel/serial cable connectors and the 290 had both the PCMCIA slot and the connectors for the parallel serial cable. Most of the 290 cards I've run accross were missing the parallel serial cable but they can be put together with currently available parts. There is no manual available currently that contains the info or instructions for the 290 Card. As mentioned on Andrews Web page I managed to obtain a copy of the 200 series manual but it isn't very good only really containing the jumper setting which I provided Andrew, the specs and various error messages. There were no instructions for installing or configuring the software which I figured out by trial and error. |
Reply LC card for 6200 Seriesby (no login)I have recently gotten the external cables for this card and have been attempting to display the PC side on the monitor attached to this cable and the mac side on the standard monitor connection. However, all I have been able to do is get one environment to show on both monitors at the same time. Any sugestions? Thanks, Paul |
