This web forum is a site for the now defunct Apple MacDOScard.
For three years, this existed as the MacDOScard mailing list but as more firewalls showed up and disallowed email into them - I feel that a web-based forum would be more appropriate. Hence the creation of this web site.
Very soon, the MacDOScard mailing list will cease the exist. Current deadline for off-line is end September 1999.

OPC 660 and Adding Disk Spaceby (no login)I am running an OPC 660 w/400Mhz AMD K6III processor and 256mb of RAM. I am trying to attach a 3.2gb Quantum Fireball SCSI drive as a drive D: disk, but I can't seem to get Windows 98SE to recognise more than 1gb of the disks space. What am I doing wrong? Ken |
Windows NT in OrangePC?by (no login)Hi. I am trying to install Windows NT 4.0 on my OrangePC. Setup created those three setup diskettes, and the setup programm continues, but after I've been asked to change disks 2 and 3 several times, the setup crashes with a "kernal panic". This repeatedly happened always at the same point of progress, namely when the keyboard drivers are to be installed. I tried to replace the AMD K6-2 300 MHz cpu with the oraiginal Pentium 200 MMX, but that did not help. (I pressed F6 when setup began to search for the installed hardware components, as said in the OrangePC manual.) Can anyone give a hint? My system is as follows: G4 933 MHz OrangePC 550 G.Brenke |

Jumper settings for OPC 550?by (no login)Hi. Does anybody know, if there are jumper settings for multipliers above 4.5 (4.5, 5.0 ang 5.5). I cannont find any hints inside the manual. BTW: From one day to another the K6 III 400 in my 550-card ist running very hot. When I first run the application everything seems to be fine, but after only a few minutes Windows gets unstable and system errors occur. Then the card crashes and even switching to the mac is no longer possible, so I have to rebbot. The CPU gets really hot, although the core-voltage is set to the desired 2.4 Volts an a rather big heatsink with fan is installed. Can anybody help? G.Brenke |
Jumper settings for POC 550?by Nils Welsh (no login)I know that with the K6-2+, it is possible to set the multiplier to 6 using the Central Tweaking Unit software. It might be possible to do the same with K6-2 and K6-3 processors. |
central tweaking unit?by (no login)Can You tell me, where to find the ctu? G.Brenke |
550 overheatingby Nils Welsh (no login)I have a 450 MHz K6-3, and it runs at 2.2 V. You could also try to decrease the load on the S3 Virge graphic chip by decreasing colours to thousands, resolution to 800 x 600 and refresh rate to 60 Hz. |
AMD K6-2 works in OPC 540!!!by (no login)Hi. Perhaps some of the OrangePC 540 users might be interested in this: I have been using an OrangePC 540 with the original Pentium MMX 200 in a Quicksilver 933 for quite some time. That might be enough CPU-power for DOS or Win 3.1 but not really for Win 9x. After the upgrade of my other OPC 550 to a 400 MHz K6-3 I had a left-over K6-2 300 MHz in my drawer and always had the idea of putting it into my OPC 540. The only problem should have been to cut down the core voltage of 2.8V - 3.45V (depending on the used cpu type) that is provided by the OPC 540 to the 2.2V the K6-2 needs. This is what I did: I purchased a "Multimedia CPU Upgrade Kit" by MADEX (www.madex.com) for socket-7 CPUs and configured it as said in the quickstart guide. Since the bus speed of the OPC 540 is limited to 66 MHz the Clock Multiplier had to be set to 4.5x in order to match my 300 MHz cpu (the MADEX card supports Multipliers from 2.5 to 6). The voltage-jumper on the MADEX-card had to be set to 2.2V. The OPC 540 then had to be set to a supported cpu type with core voltage of 3.45V or 3.3V. The setting for a Pentium 100 works. According to the OrangePC-manual neither JP5 nor JP6 had to be shortened. The last thing to do was to install a new fan on the K6-2 (the original OPC-Fan did no longer work, since the new CPU installed in the MADEX-card is about three times thicker than the original Pentium MMX) and to attach the powersupply-cable to the MADEX-card (cable was included, but a standard PC-cable for 3.5 inch floppies will work as well). After reassembling the Mac and launching the OrangePCi application the OPC 540-bios reported a 300 MHz AMD K6-2. With this CPU Windows 98 is much more usable. You'll notice the speed increase. Since the MADEX-card provides core voltages of 2.4V, 2.2V and especially 2.1V, an AMD K6-3 400 MHz should also work. That is something I'll try someday. E-mail me, if there are any questions. Searching the Forumby (no login)Is there anyway to search this forum? I am sure I have had a problem with WMP rebooting the DOS card but I can’t remember the solution. I went to search this forum but could not figure out how. |
orangePC 530 (166) upgrade to P1/233mmx?????by (no login)anyone have the jumper setting info for the 530 card? I have the 166Mhz cpu in it now but I have a P/200 and a P/233 MMX. I want to install the P233 and use the 200 as a backup. I think the two sets of jumpers next to the CPU are what I need to use but what pins should be jumped? Thanks John AO |
orangePC 530 upgrade to P1/233mmxby (no login) >I think the two sets of jumpers next to the CPU >are what I need to use but what pins should be jumped? According to the OrangePC Manual Pins 1 and 2 have to be shortend on Jumpers JP 6 and JP 7. I think You can find the complete documentation at www.orange-micro.com. G.Brenke |
YES! there it is! jumper settings! Thanksby John (no login)www.orangemicro.com sure enough there it is. the jumper settings for all CPUs that the 530 can use. it is hidden in "Appendix D: Installing Optional Hardware" of the 3.1.1 manual PDF. my problem was I had the 3.4 manual PDF. thanks |
128 MB on P166 Cardby (no login)I have P166 card in my 7500. The 64 MB card I had just died (unfortunately so did the vendor). Can I put a 128 MB stick on the card. I don’t care if I can’t access it all I just want to make the P166 card usable again. Thanks |
128 MB stick on P166 boardby grego015 (no login)Yes, the 128 MB 5V FPM stick works just fine. You get 142 MB --144 MB- 2 MB for the Mac interface leaving 142 MB. |
128 MB on P166 Cardby (no login)Thanks a lot. I put the stick in and now I have more memory than ever. Now I just need to figure out why the computer reboots everytime Windows Media Player starts up |
Connector pinoutby (no login)It seems to be difficult to find the special 4-ended cable (922-0706) needed for the 6100 DOS compatibility card. I wonder if someone owning such a cable could try to find out the 26-pin connector's pinout from the card's manual (is there one?) or try to measure where the pins are routed through the cable? I WOULD BE GRATEFUL. |
4 connector 6100 cable for use with pc comp cardby (no login)How about 590-2104 4 connector removed from 6100 with pc comp card. E-mail me if interested in purchasing one. |
