This web forum is a site for the now defunct Apple MacDOScard.
For three years, this existed as the MacDOScard mailing list but as more firewalls showed up and disallowed email into them - I feel that a web-based forum would be more appropriate. Hence the creation of this web site.
Very soon, the MacDOScard mailing list will cease the exist. Current deadline for off-line is end September 1999.
Help! Need working pcsetup217.exeby (no login)Help me, Please! I installed the pcsetup2.1.7 Mac drivers for my DOS Compatability card, but the Windows executable does nothing. Just for kicks, I tried it on 2 different authentic PeeCee's and it still did nothing. I'm fairly sure my copy is defective. I tried redownloading it 3 times -- using 2 different computers -- but it still won't work. If anyone can send me a good copy, or point me to a good copy, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Mendel |
Disergard, found it!by (no login)Continuing to dig (like I hadn't already spent hours Googling and browsing) I found them on a member of this forum's site. http://www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=30406&messageid=1060015550 Thanks! |
OrangPC keeps restartingby HM (no login)I have a 626 with at 400mhz AMD K-2. I can use it for a while, however it restarts and gets caught in a restart loop. I quit the OrangePC app, and then I cannot initialize the card. If I let the machine sit powered off for a while, I can get the card to work, and the cycle begins. Any Ideas why it's reset/restarting?? Thanks -HM |
ORC keeps restartingby Nils Welsh (no login)Is the processor fan working? It sounds like the processor is overheating. |
Help!!!!! OPC 660 is not working!by (no login)I recently aquired a OrangePC 660 card. It came without a processor, so I installed a Pentium 133Mhz. I can't seem to get the card to recognize the processor as anything but a 100Mhz Pentium. I also for some reason cannot get passed the memory test. The screen switches over to the BIOS screen with no problems, then does the memory test. After the test is complete, it shows text about the Award Plug and Play BIOS, then it goes blank and restarts from the beginning, over and over and over! Everything I try is to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ken |
OPC 660 not workingby Nils Welsh (no login)How did you set the jumpers? An incorrect voltage setting might result in what you are seing. In addition, as your processor is only 133 Mhz, I guess that you should decrease the bus speed to 66 Mhz and set the multiplier to x 2. |
Re: OPC 660 not workingby (no login)I have the jumpers set for 3.3v, 66Mhz and a 1.5x multiplier. I have also bought replacement 128MB DIMMS, thinking that faulty memory might be the cause, but they havn't arrived yet to test that theory. In addition I have since bought a 450Mhz AMD K6-2 processor, and will try that when it arrives. Ken |
Re: OPC 660 not workingby (no login)Ok.....I installed 2 new 128MB DIMMs and a 450Mhz AMD K6-2 processor. The BIOS recognizes the new processor just fine. But I did find out that only one of my DIMM slots are good, there seems to be a missing pin on one of the slots and the card will no long start up with both DIMMs mounted in it. When I start up with only one DIMM installed, it does start up, but still locks up after displaying the The Plug and Play Text. Though it no longer keeps starting over and over and I can now get into the CMOS screen, I still cannot get to any kind of prompt so I can continue with the start up. Any ideas as to the problem? OPC 660 upgrades?by (no login)I just recentley aquired a 660 card from ebay, and I am wondering what the max RAM and processor speed that can be ran on it is? I have read some of the other posts, but I am not really all that savy when it comes to wintel hardware. Basically I am wondering if it is possible, and if anyone has tried installing 2x256MB modules on this card, and if it is possible to use a 550Mhz AMD K6 2 processor. I realize that OrangeMicro states that the max RAM is 2x128MB modules and a 450MHZ AMD K6 2 processor. Your help and advice is much appreciated. Thanks, Ken |
OPC 660 upgrades?by Nils Welsh (no login)I havn't tried this, but I guess that even though you you install a 256 MB stick, the OrangePC will recognize it as only 128 MB. On the other hand, I bet it's possible to have a 550 MHz K6-2 run at at least 550 MHz. I'm running a 450 K6-2 at 500, so with proper cooling, you might get the 550 to run at 610 (set the multipliers at 5.5 and the bus speed at 111). Or even better, stick a K6-3 450 MHz into the 660, and overclock it to 500 MHz. |
Re: OPC 660 upgrades?by (no login)Thanks Nils, I will give the 256MB sticks and the K6 2 550Mhz processor a try and post how it works! Thanks again, Ken |
OPC 660 running Win 2000by (no login)Is it possible to run Win2000 with the OPC 660? |
Re: OPC 660 running Win 2000by Al (no login)I don't believe that the OPC software drivers for the Windows drive container are Win 2000 compatible. |
Loopback (three-ended) Cable pinouts???by (no login)Just picked up a secondhand 12" PCI PC compatibilty card, and I'mlooking to get it fired up. I'm lacking the loopback cable, and it looks like they basically can't be bought anymore. So it looks like I'll have to build one (Not like that's any kind of big deal - once I figure out what pins are conected where...) So, does anybody know the pinouts for each of the ends of the three-ended "loopback" cable that goes with the 12" PCI PC compatibility card? Even a list like "Pin 1 of short is connected to pin 1 of center and pin 3 of long", and so on, would be a HUGE help. I'm absolutely stunned that there is no answer here on the forum, despite at least 10-20 requests for either the cable itself, or information about it. As far as I can determine, these cables can't be had for love nor money unless you manage to literally stumble across one by accident - Apple says "No longer available". Shreve Systems and Sun Remarketing say "Huh???", and nobody else I've checked with so far seems to have any either. So it looks like it's down to "make your own". Which I'd cheerfully do, if I could figure out how the darn things are wired! Searching the knowledge base at Apple finds me an article with detailed pinout info on the "four headed" version, but ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION OF ANY KIND comes back about the "three-headed" version, no matter what search terms I try. Anybody got one laying around they'd care to donate temporarily so I can put a meter on the beast and decipher what pin connects where? I'll happily go to the effort of creating the document, if only I can get my hands on one to work with. If anybody has any useful info along these lines, I'd ove to hear from you. My e-mail is dakidd@sonic.net - just raw, with no munges applied. Please... if you've got any information on thsese things, a lead on somebody that actually has one, or similar, get in touch with me! |
general pinout info, probably helpfulby Oliver S. (no login)Hi Don! I have a link that might help you to at least some extent: http://www.ccr-computerclub.de/lam2/lam.htm It's a collection of tech info, pinouts etc. for Mac freaks. You should be able to find the pinouts from the Mac although it's in German. One thought from my side: The three headed cable is plugged with one end to the Mac's video port, with one to the monitor and with one to the video port of the compat card. The Mac video port head and the monitor head should be the usual ones. And correct me if I'm wrong, isn't it the case that I can plug a second separate Mac monitor to the video port of the compat card as well? So this port should have the usual pinout as well?!? Just a thought. Greetings, Oliver S. |
A valiant attempt...by (no login)Well, that site you mentioned is a non-starter. Problem 1: I don't read german Problem 2: If there's anything on there about the PCCC cable, I can't find it. On the plus side... "Mike" posted a message on this forum, under the subject "Pinouts". It was a pinout list of the actual video port on the card - Not the cable itself. Using that and a couple other references, I've developed what I THINK should be a working wiring scheme for the cable. Anybody want to "sanity-check" my scheme? It follows this text. And Oliver - would you mind terribly passing me a direct E-mail address? While it's better than nothing at all, I really, REALLY, *REALLY*, dislike the interface to this forum. Here comes the connection list I've been playing at developing. If anybody sees any obvious errors, PLEASE don't hesitate to let me know. If anybody has one of these cables and a meter, they might check the actual pins and see if "The Real Thing" matches what I've come up with so far... Video Loopback cableby grego015 (no login)If you’re not ambious enough to build one E-mail me I’ve got one to sell. |
Loopback Cableby (no login)Thanks for the offer, but the prototype to confirm proof-of-concept has been put together, and operates precisely as it should. I'll be making a document on exact details available very soon. Meanwhile, even though it looks like a pot of colored spaghetti exploded behind the computer, I'm getting 100% perfect function out of the tangled mess that is my "cable". Now if only my order would get here sooner, I could disconnect the "wired in space" (no plugs except the one that would be "the short end"... We're talking pure "This end of this wire goes in this hole, and this end goes in this hole...") mess and build it PROPERLY... |

Untitledby (Login luis_desantos)I recently purchased a PC Compatibility Card but I cannot determine which type it is. It is 12", but the processor is firmly glued to the heatsink so I cannot tell what the processor speed is. Since only the 166 Mhz models are compatible with my beige G3 MT, I would like to know. The part number is: Qty One (1) Apple Computer P/N 820-0729-B Searches on the Internet and on Apple's site don't reveal anything. Also, I am hearing about a newer version of PC Setup made by a third party. My current version 1.6.4 has problems in that it requires OpenTransport 1.1.1 "or higher" but in fact will only work with 1.1.1. Anything newer and it claims the version is not "1.1.1 or higher" so the PC Network Extension closes. 1) Do I need this newer version? What are the benefits? 2) How much does it cost? 3) What is the highest OS I can run PC Setup under my beige G3? I originally had 9.2.2 before the card was installed, but it refused to boot (even with extensions off) so I dropped back to 8.6 (which does work). What between 8.6 and 9.2.2 is the max OS? And finally, what is the maximum OS anyone has gotten to run on the PC Compatibility cards? Win98SE? Anything higher? I know this is a lot to ask all in one post. I appreciate what help I get as this is the only forum I have found dedicated to this. Luis |
Re: PC Compatibility Cardby Henry Donzis (no login)The easieast way to tell what kind of PC Compatibility Card it is, is to look at the video RAM and see if it has four solder in video chips or two soldered in chips and two sockets. If it has sockets, then it is the 100MHz PC Compatibility card. Also, you can look at the sound in and out connectors. The 100MHz PC Compatibility card only has two sound connectors whereas the 166MHz PC compatibility card has three sound connectors. I am using the 166MHz PC Compatibility card in my beige G3 with PCSetup 1.6.4 and OS 8.6, but using the patch to fix the Open Transport problem: http://summary.net/soft/PC-CardOS8.5NetPatch.sit.hqx Here is a link to installing the PC Compatibility card in the beige G3: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30330 I am also running the 166MHz PC Compatibility card on another beige G3 with PCSetup 2.1.7 and OS 9.2.2. The problem with using OS 9.2.2 is creating disk containers. But, if you only create unformatted containers with PCSetup and then use MS-DOS' FORMAT program, then things seem to work OK. Good luck, Henry |

Sound Blaster softwareby (Login elokim11)I would like to purchase Sound Blaster disk that came with Apple P166 Dos card. Can anyone help? |
Re: Sound Blastewr Softwareby Al (no login)There is no seperate soundblaster software that came with the Apple 166 Pentium Card. Thge Sound Blaster software is contained on Disk 2 ( The PC disk ) of PC Setup 1.6.4 which should still be available from the Apple Support Website. Just run the sound install program from PC Setup disk 2 and it will install the soundblaster driver & software. |
Re: Re: Sound Blastewr Softwareby Ben (no login)According to manual in mentions the loading of PC compatbility Card -PC Utilities CD which has drivers and is installed via DOS prompt. Check page 155 of installing PC Comp card software. What the commands when using PC Setup disk ? |
Re: Re: Re: Sound Blastewr Softwareby Ben (no login)Ignore message-I meant page 154 for installing Sound Blaster for Windows 95 |
Re: Re: Re: Re: Soundblaster Softwareby Al (no login)Sorry. My memory isn't what it used to be. The manual is correct. The Soundblaster software, as well as the Video Software is on the Apple PC Utilities CD ROM which came with the PC Card. |
running a OrangePC 660 in a G4 667by (no login)Hello everybody, I try to use an Orange 660 card in a G4 / 667 digital audio. It does not work. All the orangedriver are on Interrupt 14 and I can not move them to "empty" Interrupts. The next problem is, that I can`t see a CD Rom drive, so I can`t install any drivers. Who has the same problems? Best regards Andreas |
