This web forum is a site for the now defunct Apple MacDOScard.
For three years, this existed as the MacDOScard mailing list but as more firewalls showed up and disallowed email into them - I feel that a web-based forum would be more appropriate. Hence the creation of this web site.
Very soon, the MacDOScard mailing list will cease the exist. Current deadline for off-line is end September 1999.
Untitledby Anonymous (no login)I build PC's not Mac's. A friend was given a "Power Macintosh 7100 / 80MHZ"... model no. M2391. Motherboard...1993-94 ZENON KUC 'Sandy Hiser.' 820-0597-A... #FC518HVA4LN. Problem...Password protected by McAfee. I pulled the battery and all power to drop the password in the bias, to no avail. I can hit cancel as an option at McAfee password window, but then it shows a picture of 31/2" disk with a questionmark inside it. I take that it wants a startup disk. What type of disk is needed and do you know where I can get one??? |
Booting with Password Protectionby Henry (no login)You can either boot from a system CD by holding down the 'c' key while booting, or you can boot from a system floppy. After that, you could remove the password protection. You also may be able to get around the password protection by disabling system extensions by holding down the Shift key while booting, or maybe by using the Extension Manager by holding down the space bar while booting. Good luck, Henry |
McAfee Protectionby (no login)If that password protection is anything like Norton DiskLock, you won't ever be able to access anything on the HD. You have to format it. Generally programs like this install themselves in a very low level part of the HD. If you try to read from the disk at startup, you get the password prompt. Hitting cancel and getting the floppy with flashing question mark means this. You're canceling your attempt to access the HD by hitting cancel. The HD was the boot device.. The flashing floppy question mark means the mac is asking for a different boot device (since it can't read the HD). Only option is to boot with a Mac OS CD, and blow away the HD. |
Probably Stolen from Appleby Apple Dude (no login)I would ask your friend how he acquired this particular machine. With the data you supplied it indicates it was a beta-test prototype which was supposed to be destroyed. Hence the reason for the lock. Of course, there is nothing interesting behind the lock, as it was the operation of the "new" model that was the protected secret... How do I know? Zenon was my boss... |

Cable for 6100/66 dos cardby Frank Schwab (no login)I bought a 6100/66 dos compatible version, but no cables were included. I remember having a weird cable that combined the 45pin mac video output with the weird connector on the DOS board, and then there was a joystick and monitor connector coming off of this cable. I had one in the past. How can I connect a monitor straight to the dos card(assuming I use a 45pin to 15pin adapter for the Mac portion), or alternatively, does anyone have the cable I need? |
Re: Cable for 6100/66 dos cardby Henry (no login)The cable is non-standard, so unless you want to figure out how to make one yourself, you will need to purchase one. They usually are fairly available on eBay. But, you can also try Shreeve Systems and several other Mac parts places to find one... Good luck, Henry |
Dos Card Video Cableby (no login)Ive got one. Contact me by E-mail and we can negotiate. |
pcsetupby (no login)Hi, does anyone still have a copy of pcsetup 2.1.7? The website is down (for good?). Email me agenthex@hotmail.com Thanks. |
pcsetupby Al (no login)Try the link in the post just prior to yours. I just tried it and it works fine. |
PCSetup 2.1.7 Download **HERE**by (no login)Gotta love archive.org http://web.archive.org/web/20020609180626/http://www.pcsetup2x.com/index.html |
Re: PCSetup 2.1.7 Download **HERE**by Henry (no login)I have tried this link, and the problem that I seem to find with it is that while it may be an archive copy of the pcsetup2x.com home page, all of its links and references are to www.pcsetup2x.com, which is gone. So, while you can kind of look at what the home page used to look like, you still can't navigate it or download anything. Maybe I am wrong, but if all people have done is tried the link and see that a page comes up, that is all that I can seem to make work. Try downloading the software or any of the documentation and see if you can get that to work... Henry |
Re: PCSetup 2.1.7 Download **HERE**by Al (no login)Henry, I tried the link last night when I saw the post dated the 21st asking for a copy of the software and had no problem downloading all the software ( both the Mac and PC files ) as well as the documentation. |
Re: Re: PCSetup 2.1.7 Download **HERE**by Mike (no login)You don't need to click any navigation links. Everything you need is on the front page. |
thanksby (no login)very smooth, the site pcsetup was defunct but your link had the pc files i needed. thanks |
Dos card in a PC?by (no login)Has anyone tried putting a PCI based dos/win card in a PC? any reason this wouldn't work? cut out rebooting into a different OS! have them running at the same time! |
Re: Dos card in a PC?by Mike (no login)I would assume the cards hook into some mac specific hardware in order to function. I'd be extremely surprised if they worked at all in a pc. I'd be cool for S&G, but I doubt it work work. |
Apple 166er PC-Card: How To Install DSL?by (no login)Hi, at last I managed to got the 166er PC-Card up and running on my beige G3 running MacOS 9.2.1. With PC-Setup 2.1.7 I even got the network access working under Windows 95C. But when installing an PPPoE-protokoll binding this to the ndis-card, the DSL-Modem-Test-Software is not able to access the modem at all. Anyone with some experience out there? Even a "didnt manage it at all" would be helpfull! Thanxs, Frank |
Re: Apple PC -Card: How to Install DSLby Al (no login)The only way to install DSL using the Apple PC Card is to use a Hardware Router. None of the PPOE software programs will work on the Windows side. |
Thanks, thats what I thought.by (no login)But what about an Orange PC-Card. Different there? |
Re: Thanks, thats what I thoughtby Al (no login)Don't know as I have'nt tried any of my OPC cards with DSL but I suspect It's probably the same. I believe Orange Micro stopped upgrading their software before DSL and PPPOE came into general use which would probably mean that PPPOE wouldn't work with the OPC software either. |
